Durch Optimierung und Züchtung von Hochleistungsrassen in der modernen Landwirtschaft, sind alte Nutztierrassen bei uns selten geworden und vom Aussterben bedroht. Dieser Kalender zeigt zwölf verschiedene alte Rassen, die von der Gesellschaft zur Erhaltung alter und gefährdeter Haustierrassen e.V. (GEH) als, zum Teil extrem, gefährdet eingestuft worden sind.
