Mit rund 300 Werken eröffnet die Schau A LIFE IN A FEW LINES in den Deichtorhallen Hamburg vom 24.

The Lebanese artist Huguette Caland (1931-2019) consistently defied the social and aesthetic expectations of her time during her almost fifty-year career. Her multifaceted life's work from three continents is the focus of the exhibition realized in cooperation with the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía. With around 300 works, the show A LIFE IN A FEW LINES at the Deichtorhallen Hamburg from October 24, 2025 to April 26, 2026 opens up a new perspective on Caland's work. It focuses on her resistance to social and sexual norms and her approach to life between different cultures and places.

Caland's artistic life was shaped by her experiences in Beirut, free-spirited Paris and bohemian Venice, California. These places reflected the political, cultural and social currents of her time and had a lasting influence on her work. Her art - often sensual and bold - deals with themes such as community, urbanity, love, ageing and the search for identity.

Her works - colorful paintings, delicate drawings, sculptures and textiles - reflect a rebellious, life-affirming attitude that challenged conventions around beauty, desire and female identity. Caland's fascinating mixture of abstraction, figurative depictions and explicit erotic motifs was ahead of its time. Today, Caland is considered an icon of female emancipation and an inspiration for female artists worldwide. Her works can be found in the collections of well-known museums such as the Centre Pompidou in Paris, the British Museum and the Tate in London.

Broke within an hour of assembly.
Size: 6 Panel-120"W, Color: Beige
This is of horrible quality. Within an hour of building, the feet support were broken on both ends, where they spin in place & do not stay straight to hold the divider up. Pieces of the plastic on the feet were broken simply from assembling the product. The covers for the metal poles were the only reason I bought this divider instead of other similar products, however those only cover one side of the metal poles so they are still visible from the other side. Two of these covers were also torn & not useable within an hour of assembly, one was already partially ripped on arrival & the other one was ripped simply during assembly of the product. I do not recommend this item & would have returned if I was still in the return window. I missed the return window because the product was bought during the holidays & I didn’t have time to mess with the return. I have not been able to use this product even once, the broken feet which do not stay in place make it very unstable & dangerous.

Pretty good, especially for this price point.
Color: Beige, Size: 21.5"- 1 Panel
This is merely a piece of cloth stretched between the frame borders, but it works perfectly. It arrived quickly, all parts present and in good condition. I didn't put the castors on, as it will be more or less always in one position. I simply attached some felt sliders on the bottom to prevent scratching the floor and to allow clearance for the center screw (which is not flush fit). Overall, a reasonable deal for the price point.
