Sie konzentriert sich in ihrem Œuvre vor allem auf das Rollenbild der Frau in Japan. Auch Yanagis neue Arbeiten der Serie My Grandmothers analysieren Zukunftsträume junger Frauen. Yanagi dokumentiert deren individuelle Selbstreflexionen fotografisch und lässt die Protagonistinnen dabei vermittels Maske und Computer »altern«. Die Bild gewordenen persönlichen Visionen vom Leben im Jahre 2050 werden von kurzen, poetisch-suggestiven Texten begleitet, die aus Gesprächen mit den Abgebildeten hervorgegangen sind und eine zusätzliche Ebene zur Fotografie schaffen. Der vorliegende Band ist die erste internationale Publikation zu Miwa Yanagi; die Auswahl der gezeigten Arbeiten reicht von frühen Beispielen aus dem Jahr 1994 bis zu neuen, erst Anfang dieses Jahres fertig gestellten Fotografien.
