Apkallu (Akkadian) and Abgal (Sumerian) are terms found in cuneiform inscriptions that in general mean either "wise" or "sage". In several contexts the Apkallu are seven demi-gods, sometimes described as part man and part fish, associated with human wisdom; these creatures are often referred to in scholarly literature as the Seven Sages. Sometimes the sages are associated with a specific primeval king. After the deluge (see Epic of Gilgamesh), further sages and kings are listed. Post-deluge, the sages are considered human, and in some texts are distinguished by being referred to as Ummanu, not Apkallu.A further use of the term Apkallu is when referring to figurines used in apotropaic rituals; these figurines include fish-man hybrids representing the seven sages, but also include bird-headed and other figures.

-Dagon or more accurately Dagan was a god worshiped in ancient Syria across the middle of the Euphrates, with primary temples located Tuttul and Terqa, though many attestations of his cult come from cities such as Mari and Emar as well. In settlements situated in the upper Euphrates area he was regarded as the "father of gods" similar to Mesopotamian Enlil or Hurrian Kumarbi, as well as a lord of the land, a god of prosperity, and a source of royal legitimacy. A large number of theophoric names, both masculine and feminine, attests that he was a popular deity. He was also worshiped further east, in Mesopotamia, where many rulers regarded him as the god capable of granting them kingship over the western areas. Made well. Precise control pouring spout. Stainless steel, not just coated.
Love this little pitcher. It holds up to 12 oz. It's stainless steel, not just coated, and a decent weight. I love the design with the precise control of the eagles beak spout, but I still can't do the "art" very well. The etched numbers inside make a huge difference between making a Cappacino or Combacha as the difference to a lot of these coffee drinks has to do with how much frothed milk you add to your shots of Espresso, so having the etched markings inside is fantastic! The markings are not actually dug/etched INTO the stainless steel. Feels smooth inside to run your fingers over the etchings. Although I've washed it a few times in top rack of dishwasher the etchings haven't faded, so I'm glad about that. The etchings are dark enough to be easily seen. Measure in ounces and ml. Hopefully they will not wear off somehow. That's why I gave it a four star. It's very comfortable to hold and pour.
