The BeeBox beehive system is the result of 40 years of beekeeping and development experience on the biggest beekeeping operation in Scandinavia. They have been tested as well in harsh environments facing ± 50°C in Northern Europe, arctic Russia, Australia and New Zealand.
The beehives are made of food grade, extra hardened, expanded polystyrene (EPS) with a density of over 100 kg/m³.

In proper use, the hives will easily last several decades. In order to save space during transport, the boxes are supplied unassembled.

The Standard hive top design has been designed for flexibility where it can be flipped upside-down and a propolis plate placed; thus providing incredible extra ventilation on the extremely hot days or for transportation. In this state an emlock strap is recommended to tie the hive together. If kept in its normal state, ventilation can be reduced and used to minimise heat loss. Therefore this top provided the best of both worlds.

Finally, the length and width of the hive top now matches the length and width dimensions of the hive body precisely making it easy to stack hives or supers on pallets.
