Santorini est un jeu de stratégie accessible, suffisamment simple pour une classe d'école primaire tout en offrant une profondeur de jeu et un contenu à explorer pour les joueurs invétérés. Chaque tour se compose de deux étapes :

1. Déplacement - déplacez l'un de vos bâtisseurs dans une case voisine. Vous pouvez déplacer votre pion bâtisseur sur le même niveau, monter d'un niveau ou descendre d'un nombre quelconque de niveaux.

2. Construire - Construisez ensuite un niveau de construction adjacent au bâtisseur que vous avez déplacé. Lorsque vous construisez sur le troisième niveau, placez un dôme à la place et retirez cette case du jeu.

Gagner la partie - Si l'un de vos bâtisseurs atteint le troisième niveau, vous gagnez.

Cette entrée concerne l'édition de détail qui contient 32 dieux et 4 cartes de mode, par rapport à l'édition Panthéon qui contient 100 dieux et 12 cartes de mode. Le reste du contenu a été réparti dans 4 packs d'extension : Soaring over Olympus, Tides of Poseidon, Seasons of Chaos et Hiding in the Underworld.
