It carries us into the madness of air warfare, the horror of a screaming crash into the frigid North Sea, the terrible realization and burden of living with the knowledge that you survived when everyone else died. The son of illiterate, but deeply religious Sicilian immigrants, US District Court Judge Anthony Alaimo shined shoes and cut hair in Jamestown, New York, to pay for his college education. (He was the Golden Gloves boxer attending the quiet Methodist College.) As a POW, he participated in the world-famous Great Escape, and later broke out on his own, making his way through German lines into Switzerland. A mother's love, religious faith, and ferocious patriotism transform an impoverished immigrant boy into one of the Greatest Generation heroes. Am almost done reading

This book came recommended by a very hospitable friend. I'm almost done reading and wanted to drop by here to leave a positive review.
Lots of good useful ideas in this book and it has an engaging writing style. I think the author is specifically gifted in the area of hospitality - not everyone can live like she and her family do, but there are a lot of practical tips if you're hoping to grow in that area of your life.

Hospitality is the Most Important Thing
Format: Hardcover
The author does an excellent job making a case for how important and underrated hospitality is to a hurting world. She captures my attention instantly with her story about her neighbor Hank. She leaves me hanging through a couple of chapters before I get more details about his story.
I almost put down the book permanently when she gets on her high religious horse. I suspect she and I would disagree about some of our theology. And I didn't need to be persuaded, so those chapters weren't written for me. If you skim (or skip) that beginning section, it's well worth the practical ideas for how to open up your own home and life in hospitality.
A great challenge that I shall take up. May all our neighbors become friends and our friends become family.
