In this second volume, the earthÕs magnetic field and aurora take centre stage. Geomagnetic reversals are rare occasions when the field dwindles, the north and south magnetic poles trade places, and minor poles come into play. This process remains incomplete in the much more frequent case of a geomagnetic excursion. Throughout human history, people have personified and mythologised the aurora. If a geomagnetic excursion had occurred within human memory, they could have observed spectacular transformations of the lights, even at low latitudes, and enshrined these in myths, monuments, images and rituals. Many elements of the primordial condition described worldwide may thus be explained Ð awe-inspiring luminous rings, arcs and columns, often dynamic and structured, that seemingly held up a gloomy, low-hanging sky.

Evidence is cited for two excursions that could have informed age-old traditions in this way. Specialists dispute both and a way out of the controversy is proposed. The unique effects that a geomagnetic reversal or excursion must have on the aurora are further explored through possible contemporary parallels on other solar-system bodies and in experimental work on terrellae, of which a historical survey is given. A wealth of new information is provided throughout on the history of geomagnetic studies and auroral physics. XXXIII + 516 pages. With foreword by Dr. C. J. Ransom, 168 black-and-white illustrations and alphabetic index.

Latex allergy stopped me from taking bromelain
I was excited to find a natural solution to inflammation and sinus issues. However, after taking this for less than a week, I had a nosebleed that wouldn't stop. After a deep dive on Google, I found out that if you are allergic to latex, you shouldn't take bromelain. Latex Cross-Reactivity: Bromelain is derived from pineapple. People with a latex allergy are at higher risk of an allergic reaction to bromelain. This allergy can manifest as sneezing, itchy throat, or inflammation in the sinuses, which can trigger nosebleeds. I was taking this to get rid of the inflammation in my sinuses, not add to it. I also had tingling in my fingers, which a deep dive on Google said could happen if I am sensitive to quercetin. Quercetin Side Effects: While generally safe, high-dose or sensitive use of quercetin can cause "tingling in the extremities" (numbness/tingling in hands/feet). Thus is neither a high dose of eother of these, nor was it used long-term, so I guess I am sensitive to them both. Beware if you are sensitive to medications and/or have a latex allergy. I can't say if these pills made a positive impact on me, because I only found negative effects, but that is due to my body being so quirky.
