When Pahlavi II resigned in February 1979 due to the Iranian Revolution, and the anti-American Islamic Republic of Iran was established, the U.S. instituted a weapons ban and the subsequent supply of this aircraft, including replacement parts, was cut off; even so, Iran began using the F-4A.
