The VARUN S700-1 electric bike is positioned as a practical, everyday commuter that prioritizes efficiency, manageable weight, and straightforward usability over aggressive off-road performance. Built with an aluminium alloy frame, it keeps the weight to around 26 kg, which is noticeably lighter than many fat-tire or dual-suspension e-bikes. Its overall dimensions (180 × 65 × 112 cm) give it a stable on-road presence while still being compact enough for urban storage or transport. With a maximum load capacity of 150 kg, it’s suitable for a wide range of riders, including those carrying backpacks or light cargo.

One thing that stands out immediately is that the specifications you provided contain some inconsistencies, particularly regarding the motor and drivetrain. The bike is a 250W motor (which aligns with UK and EU road-legal limits),

In terms of performance, the bike uses a brushless motor producing around 55 Nm of torque, which is moderate but sufficient for urban commuting and light hills. It won’t feel as punchy as higher-torque bikes (like 70–90 Nm models), but it should provide smooth and predictable assistance, especially when paired with the cadence sensor system offering six pedal-assist levels (PAS). This setup is more about steady support than sporty responsiveness, making it ideal for relaxed riding rather than aggressive acceleration.

The battery is a 48V 10.4Ah lithium-ion unit, which is fairly standard in this category. It delivers a claimed range of 50–100 km depending on pedal assist usage, though the more conservative and realistic expectation is closer to 40–70 km in mixed real-world conditions. Factors like rider weight, terrain, assist level, and wind will significantly affect this. Charging takes around 4–6 hours, which is typical and convenient for overnight or workday charging.

The drivetrain again presents conflicting information. While one section mentions a 21-speed system, the detailed spec lists a Shimano 7-speed setup with a rear derailleur. In most cases at this price and category, a 7-speed Shimano drivetrain is far more likely and realistic. It’s a reliable, low-maintenance system that provides enough gearing for city riding, moderate inclines, and casual weekend trips, though it won’t offer the fine control of higher-end multi-chainring systems.

Ride quality is geared toward comfort and efficiency on paved roads and light mixed terrain. The front suspension fork helps absorb bumps from potholes or uneven streets, though it won’t match the performance of higher-end air suspension systems. The 27.5" × 1.95" tires are narrower than fat tires, which improves rolling efficiency and makes the bike feel quicker and more agile on roads, but slightly less cushioned on rough terrain. This makes the S700-1 particularly well-suited for commuting, bike paths, and light gravel rather than off-road trails.

For braking and control, the bike comes equipped with dual disc brakes, which provide dependable stopping power in various weather conditions. As with many bikes in this segment, they are likely mechanical disc brakes unless specified otherwise. The inclusion of an LCD display allows riders to monitor speed, battery level, and assist mode, while the LED headlight adds visibility for low-light riding. The CE certification further suggests it meets basic European safety and compliance standards.

Overall, the VARUN S700-1 is best understood as a simple, commuter-focused e-bike designed for daily travel, errands, and casual rides. Its strengths lie in its lighter frame, efficient tire setup, and practical range, making it a good option for urban environments. However, the inconsistent specifications—especially regarding motor power, gearing, and speed—are a red flag that should not be ignored. Before buying, it would be wise to confirm the exact configuration being sold, as that will ultimately determine whether it meets legal requirements and performance expectations.

Make your life a work of art
Format: Kindle
These passages drawn from all the world's great spiritual traditions coupled with enthusiastic sustained practice of Eknath Easwaran s 8point program can provide depth and meaning to one's life and a greater understanding of what the check it is we are all doing here on this beautiful yet long suffering planet. Don't be thrown off by the quiet delivery or the religious stuff -- it's always common sense experience based and never heavy handed. You'll get as much out of it as you put into it. The people that have used this form of meditation and are associated w the blue mountain center are some of the most extraordinary humble people you will ever meet. Good luck.

A Beautiful Resource
Format: Kindle
Eknath Easwaran was a wonderful teacher who taught passage meditation, memorizing and repeating to oneself sacred writings. These writings are drawn from many of the great religious traditions. In the last few years of my aging mother's life, she and I spent many hours reading these passages together, meditating on them, and discussing them. We had our favorites and when one of us was travelling, we would agree to meditate on one or two particular ones at the same time wherever we were. At her death, I recited many of these passages to her to bring her peace. She died more than a decade ago but these passages still evoke that beautiful time in my mind and I am grateful for this beautiful resource of passages. I find that everything in this book is a source of peace when I read and meditation on it.

Printed version would have been better
Format: Kindle
The reason I gave "God Makes the Rivers Flow" 4-stars, instead of 5-stars, is a reflection on my choice to get the Kindle Edition. I love my Kindle. But, this book would be better to flip though, not to read like a novel. I think a printed version would have been a better choice. I have a lot of respect for Eknath Easwaran. He did not just tolerate diversity, he genuinely valued diversity. His works are a great way to bring traditions and peoples together, not only by showing what they have in common (although that is valuable too), but by cerebrating the ways that they differ. His works demonstrate that each tradition has noticed something about God that others did not, and they all add value to humanity's global relationship with God. "God Makes the Rivers Flow" is a great example of that.

This book is very comforting and inspiring!
Format: Paperback
Just love all of Easwaran's books. I have memorized many of these passages for meditation and enjoy reading the others. It tells of the source and author of the passages. There is a great variety to refer to for many different needs. I appreciate the translations by a great meditation teacher, Eknath Easwaran, who brings these words to people of all different back rounds and beliefs. Thank you.
