Conference-Approved Book Written by Women? Not yet. But, our WomenÕs Step Topics Group prepared a new Big Book for women. We found that certain common A.A. suggestions for men are misleading for women. This includes discussions of self-forgetting, morality, perfection, and more.

For many men, self-forgetting is helpful. But women are often caretakers of others and neglect self-care, putting ourselves last. I recall one woman shared this: ÒI was worried about my (1) sonÕs schoolwork, (2) husbandÕs job, and (3) fatherÕs health. But I have to get less selfish about my problems and get into service for others.Ó

I silently noted that she just mentioned three people that were not her. Many women donÕt recognize themselves, go overboard with service to others, and put themselves last. Self-forgetting is a character defect women must overcome by giving up selfishness or self-will and practicing self-care and self-discovery.

We eliminated the word ÒmoralÓ since there is a double standard for men and women. A man may be a called stud, but a women with that behavior is called a very derogatory name.

Although claiming progress not perfection, the big book often tells us to strive for perfection. Women tend to be perfectionist and self-critical. ÒStriving for excellence motivates you; striving for perfection is demoralizing.Ó For ÒperfectionÓ, we substituted the word ÒexcellenceÓ.

Among the WomenÕs Step Topics we discuss are:
¥ Perfectionism
¥ Mother Guilt
¥ Surrender not submission
¥ Victims of abuse
¥ Self-critical tendencies
¥ False urges to apologize
¥ What we own and what we don't
¥ Personalizing our prayers

Doesn't Cover the Whole Book
Format: Paperback
Writing this review because I wished I'd seen more caution on this when I was purchasing. This study is meant to be paired with the Captivating book. However, it doesn't have you read the entire Captivating book. It has you jump around the book in this order: Chapter 2, 4, 6, 5, 8, and 12. You don't actually read chapters 1, 3, 7, 9, 10, or 11. I found that very confusing. This study itself has you read the chapters suggested for each session and then there are personal reflection questions each day until you get together with your group to discuss. However, the questions and reading that are to be done in quiet time during the week are copy and pasted, word for word, text from the chapter(s) you read the week before. Not only do you read the chapter one week, but then you discuss it at group, and then you read it again in this study book. It's very repetitive. It's unfortunate because this book has a lot of solid and wonderful things to offer but the study is laid out horribly and in a very confusing way, and you're not even reading the full Captivating book when you follow the guide! I'd recommend the Captivating Book but can't say that I'd recommend this study purely because of how it's laid out and repetitive.

Kitchen accessory holder
Color: Black
This is a black dishcloth and accessory holder made of steel. It has a wire bin with an angled bottom plate to allow water to run off into the sink rather than pool (a plus!) It has a bar that clips on and hangs across the front to hold our dishcloth. We put a hand soap dispenser in along with sponges and a scrubbing pad. It does come with a clear plastic sticky strip with molded catches if you want to hang it in the sink, but we set ours on the top of the sink. Works well and doesn't move around or fall. A nice kitchen gadget.

Perfect sink organizer, keeps everything dry and clean
Color: Black
I honestly didn’t realize how much I needed this until I got it. My sink area used to always look messy with wet sponges, soap bottles, and water all over the counter. This sink caddy completely fixed that. It keeps everything in one place — my dish soap, spray, sponge, and even a towel — and allows everything to dry quickly instead of staying wet. I also like that it’s sturdy and doesn’t take up too much space. It makes my kitchen look more organized and clean without any effort.

Cute addition!
Color: Black
As advertised. Good size for my sink area. Room for dish soap, hand soap pump and kitchen sponge. A place to hang my kitchen wash cloth too.
