Bhutanese make frequent pilgrimages to remote and often hidden hot springs. Called tsha chu and found throughout Bhutan, they are places of healing, community, rest and devotion.

The chanting and prayer begin at dawn with the purifying sang ritual of burning juniper. In the evenings, around the cooking fires, beer, and ara flow, new friends are made and stories told. The songs and dances go late into the night while young men and women slip off to meet in the dark steaming baths. And day or night the healing sounds of laughter lighten the air.

The Tibetans call Bhutan Lho Men Jong, the “southern medicine land,” and its tsha chu have been known for millennia to cure a range of ailments from skin afflictions to internal diseases. But the water of each tsha chu is different, with widely varying temperature and mineral content; and each is credited with its own special healing magic.

Like the Gasa Hot Springs, many of these tsha chu are located in steep jungle valleys or high mountain forests surrounded by rare medicinal plants, mushrooms and a strange variety of insect that the local people claim will heal everything from impotence to cancer.

Often close to mountain streams, these therapeutic baths are sometimes found near men chu, cold, mineral-rich springs, bubbling with tiny carbonates like fine champagne, and credited with magical curative powers. So valued are the sparkling men chu that it is common to see Bhutanese heading back home, pack animals laden with containers of these healing waters.

Bhutan’s tsha chu are free and open to all. An egalitarian society without a tradition of caste, it is not unusual to find a district governor, a nun, a yak herder and a student just returned from a foreign university joking, laughing and enjoying a bath together. Even His Majesty the King has a cottage at Gasa tsha chu, a favorite retreat of the Royal Family and their guests.

PHOTO PRINTS
Prints are on Hahnemuhle heavyweight (315 gsm) 100% archival cotton “Photo Rag Baryta” paper, using archival inks and archival spray coating. They have a 200-year life expectancy before any deterioration of the print will be observed when stored, handled, and displayed under archival conditions.

CANVAS PRINTS
What is often called “Gallery Wrap Canvas” is a fine art inkjet (Giclee) print on canvas, with printed edges to wrap around a wooden stretcher frame, like a painting. With canvas prints, your print image is still the same size, but given a "wrap effect" around the edges to account for the thickness of the stretcher. Canvas can be rolled and shipped with no effect to the print. Your local framing shop should be able to mount the canvas to stretchers at a fraction of the cost of traditional framing, making for an overall more economical way to get fine art on your wall. The canvas is printed to wrap around a 1-inch stretcher (1.5 inches on larger sizes). Specifications will be provided with your order. Feel free to contact us if you need guidance with your canvas order.

John prints, titles, dates, and signs all of his photos.

would have been better as a blog
Format: Paperback
First off, I have read over half of this book, but ultimately decided to put it down because it had a low signal-to-noise ratio. If the second half is filled with magic, I apologize in advance. What I liked: * The author is very honest. He does not shy away from discussing his failures (and successes). * The postmortem on the game "Life of Pixel" was especially good. * Interviews from various indie studios are sprinkled throughout. What I did not like: * A number of pieces of information were already out-of-date. This makes me think that the concepts should have been discussed at a higher level. For example, specifics about game engine costs are discussed. These numbers have changed since E3 of this year. Definitely recheck any information before formulating a plan based on the book's recommendations. * The indie studio interviews are a wasted opportunity in that they each interview has the same set of questions. It's like a questionnaire was sent out via email and the responses were pasted into the book. * When discussing commercial options, such as engines or other software packages, blurbs once again appear to be cut-and-pasted (this time verbatim from the package's web site). * Some of the advice is too broad and too light. For example, when writing about how to create a press release, the author discuss how to write in the active voice. I'm frankly not looking for writing tips in my Indie Game Developer Handbook. * The book is filled with tons of web links. My paperback copy was not so useful here. I ultimately left the book with the impression that the information would have been much better in the form of a blog. The author could have really gone in depth with the parts of the book that shined while keeping the surveys of topics in a form that serves them better (i.e. web links on the web).

Helpful information and Questions to consider
Format: Paperback
As a writer of science fiction and fantasy I had already looked into the physical aspects of the worlds I was creating, but I quickly realized I needed to include society and culture in the worldbuilding. I started a search for information, questionairres, or guidelines to use and found very little that would be helpful to me as a writer. Until I came across this book. It's exactly what I needed. It touches on multiple aspects of beliefs and practices and asks questions to help you think through what you want for your worlds, even if it's mostly backgroud. A very useful tool.
