Living Carelessly in Tokyo and Elsewhere: A MemoirJohn Nathan arrived in Tokyo in 1961 fresh out of Harvard College, bringing with him no practical experience, no more than two connections, no prospects, and little else to recommend him but stoic, unflappable pluck. John Nathan arrived in Tokyo in 1961 fresh out of Harvard College, bringing with him no practical experience, no more than two connections, no prospects, and little else to recommend him but stoic, unflappable pluck. Japan at that time was still in the shadow of the Occupation, and only a handful of foreigners were studying the country seriously. Two years later, Nathan became the first American to pass the entrance exams to the best school in Japan, the University of Tokyo. He went on to translate two of Japan's greatest contemporary writers, Yukio Mishima and Nobel laureate Kenzaburo Oe, and direct several series of films in and about Japan in collaboration with world-famous directors and businesses; earn an advanced degree at Harvard and a professorship at Princeton; and become a Hollywood screenwriter. Nathan was given unprecedented access to the inner sanctum of Sony for his book "Sony: The Private Life," and he explored the damaged psyche of postbubble Japan in his acclaimed "Japan Unbound."During his decades of passionate engagement with Japan, Nathan became close friends with many of the most gifted people in the land -- politicians and business leaders as well as painters, novelists, directors, rock stars, and movie stars -- and was privileged to travel, in their very special company, inside domains of Japanese life not normally open to foreigners then or now. In his unique chronicle of that journey, "Living Carelessly in Tokyo and Elsewhere," he details the adventures sublime, profane, and uproarious, many of a distinctly Japanese nature, that characterized his career, which was singular in its success as much as in its chaos. Along the way, he brings the most exciting era in recent Japanese history vividly into focus with wry humor, penetrating insight, and pathos.
John Nathan is not the only foreigner to have developed a rich, full, deeply nuanced understanding of Japan. But his experiences are certainly extraordinary and in fact irreproducible, and his memoir is the most personally satisfying story yet told of Japan (and elsewhere). From Nathan's lifetime of wisdom, compassion, and brazen resolve, we learn the value of traveling within our own mental and emotional borders as well as without the many places we call home.

Fantastic charger!!
Color: Black
Bought two of these for my house due to a recommendation from my daughter. Immediately fell in love with them! They are exactly as described, very well made and look great! They’re not too big and don’t take up too much room. The magnet is VERY strong! I was worried it wouldn’t work with my phone case on, but it did! I need to mention though that I have an iPhone case specifically designed for the MagSafe technology, I do not know if it works with regular cases. Highly recommended!

Works well
Color: Black
I've been using this charger for a couple months now and it works well. It's definitely slower than a corded charger, but it's a convenient place to leave my phone while I work, without having to worry about it overcharging. It's nice to be able to check my phone while it's on the stand. This is my main charger, but if I need my phone charged in a hurry I'll use the cord. I've only used the phone charging option, so I can't speak to how well it works for watches or earbuds. I'm sure it's fine though.

Magnet very strong and holds the phone securely.
Color: Black
Very nice wireless Magsafe Charging Station for my new iPhone17. Once the phone is mounted on the charger it is very secure. The base also charges an Apple watch and Airpods. The unit comes with an adapter power cord and brick/block. It has a slim design and fits well on my small bedside table. Unfortunately, I am returning it. I hadn't thought about how hard it would be to dismount the phone from the magnet. My hands are very weak from arthritis and to get the phone off the charger I had to hold the charger with one hand and pull hard on the phone with the other. Not workable for me.

An amazing budget charger!
Color: Black
The Hevanto 2026 3 in 1 Wireless Charging Station for Apple MagSafe Charger is a convenient and space-saving charging solution for Apple users. With this product, you can charge your iPhone, Apple Watch, and AirPods in one convenient location, which helps declutter your workspace or nightstand. I also love that the adjustable stand is included, which helps you view your phone while you're charging it. All in all, this is a great and convenient charging station that helps you charge your devices quickly and efficiently.
