Official recognition came in the form of 2 battlefield commissions; a Belgian Fourrag�re for Bravery; Bronze Star for Valor; Distinguished Unit Citation Award; Purple Heart with 2 oak-leaf clusters; 5 campaign battle stars; and numerous letters of commendation. He took silent pride in his record especially the only accolade he ever sought, the respect and love of the men he fought with.
