Description from the publisher:

The Island and the Forest: A Knitted Correspondence is an exchange of letters and knitwear patterns between two Swedish designers: Erika Åberg and Lotta H. Löthgren. The collection includes 12 patterns designed to be timeless and practical. The chapters in the book flow through the four elements and the shifting seasons. In their letters, Erika and Lotta reflect on both the little things in their life and the big questions

The Island and the Forest includes 12 knitwear patterns designed to be timeless and practical. “The book you’re holding is our attempt at interpreting our surroundings: the landscape, its atmosphere and the weather, in the shape of stitches,” say Erika and Lotta.

The Island and the Forest: A Knitted Correspondence is an exchange of letters and knitwear patterns between two Swedish designers: Erika Åberg on the island of Gotland and Lotta H. Löthgren in the forest in the southeast. The chapters in the book flow through the four elements — earth, water, fire and air — the shifting seasons and the natural world. In their letters, Erika and Lotta reflect on the little things in their life and how they draw out the big questions: meaning, creativity and belonging.

Erika Åberg is a knitwear designer and writer living with her family and dog on Gotland, an island off the east coast of Sweden. Erika is deeply rooted in Scandinavian craft and her designs are based on the love of nature, wool and island life. She leads wool and walking tours to destinations such as Gotland, Shetland and Iceland. The Island and the Forest is her eleventh book.

Lotta H. Löthgren is a knitwear designer, writer and yarn-dyer living with her family, dogs and chickens in a village in southeast Sweden, where she also has a yarn shop. As a designer, she loves to translate the natural world into wearable garments. Lotta’s first book, Observations: Knits and Essays from the Forest, was published by Laine Publishing in 2023. 222 pages

12 patterns: 3 sweaters, 2 vests, 1 cardigan, 1 shawl, 1 hat, 1 pair of fingerless mitts, 1 cowl, 1 pair of socks and 1 pair of mittens.

Good quality. Works fine.
Color: Yellow, Color: Yellow
I've never had matcha or made it before, so I looked up how to care for this set and how to use it right. There's a website called "tea is the cup of life" that has a very informative video and article about how everything related to matcha is hand made, etc. And shows what you need to do. The instructions are also on box, but seemed simplified. They're accurate enough to get you started. Based on the time consuming nature of hand making the bamboo stuff, I'd be really surprised if this is actually hand made with them selling the volume they're selling. It's still good quality, just I doubt it's hand made at this price point. The one star off is for two reasons: the whisk is supposed to make the matcha "frothy". It got a little bubbly, but not more than just stirring it with a spoon or a regular little metal whisk does. The second reason is the bamboo has supposedly less static cling for the matcha powder compared to metal spoons, so you don't waste the labor intensive and expensive powder. The matcha powder sticks to both bamboo spoons just as much as it sticks to a metal spoon, but the metal spoon rinsed off into the tea cup 100% and the bamboo still had a little powder in the grain so the spoon needed washed and a little powder was wasted. Is it enough to worry about really? I dunno. But it seems like the purists are really interested in details like that, so I'm mentioning it. Oh yeah, the description says this one is yellow and their images show that yellow green crayon color, which is what I expected to get. It's that more green color. I don't think anyone would call it yellow when they see it in person. The kit works as intended and it is good quality. Since I'm just getting into it for the health benefits of matcha tea and not for the ceremony, I didn't find the processes "meditative" at all. I'll probably just stick to using a regular spoon and whisk in the cup, but if you want to do the whole ceremonial shebang at an affordable price, this kit will do the trick.

Great gift set to for matcha lovers
Color: Yellow
Got as a birthday gift. It's the recipient favorite color. Its not part of their daily routine to have a barista like matcha. And appreciate everything about making the quality of the matcha taste that much better. Good value got it on sale. I probably purchase another color for myself.

Tea
Color: Yellow
A matcha set like the 8-piece ceramic speckled design (with teapot + whisk) is all about completeness, ceramic quality, included tools, and gift presentation. The best sets give you everything needed for a traditional matcha routine while also looking beautiful enough to display.
