You may recognise Bill the Pigeon - he was the star of the RSPB Big Garden Bird Watch TV advert a few years ago!

Bill is based on the friendly flock of pigeons that visit my garden – these sweet natured and intelligent birds are great fun to watch, and helpfully clear up all the food that the other birds drop under the bird feeders. Pigeons are wonderful!

Bill is a polite and friendly pigeon, and he’s just the right size to sit in your hand for a comforting squeeze.

Each bird knitting kit is handmade in the Scottish Highlands, and will contain all the yarn and notions that you need to knit a cuddly pigeon friend.

Is Bill suitable for beginners?

Very much so. He is simply knitted flat on a pair of 4mm knitting needles, making him suitable for a beginner who knows the basics of knitting: no need to knit in the round. 

Basic knitting skills that you’ll need to know:

Stocking stitch, increasing by knitting into the front and back of a stitch (inc 1) and decreasing by knitting 2 stitches together (k2tog). There’s colour-changing on some rows, so you will need to use Intarsia technique to change yarns mid-row. Head on over to my how to knit tutorials if you need any advice!

Knitting needles and darning needles are not included as many knitters already own a pair - but if you'd like to add these to your kit, a pair of 25cm long 4mm Pony aluminium knitting needles are £2.50, and a pack of 2 Pony darning needles are £1.50. 

All kit and parcel packaging is plastic-free, and recyclable.

The gift box measures 28cm x 19cm x 8cm.
