Originally published in 1992, the book propelled Alarc n to the forefront of contemporary Chicano letters. Alarc n was a stalwart student, researcher, and specialist on the lost teachings of his Indigenous ancestors. He first found their wisdom in the words of his Mexica (Aztec) grandmother and then by culling through historical texts. During a Fulbright fellowship to Mexico, Alarc n uncovered the writings of zealously religious Mexican priest Hernando Ruiz de Alarc n (1587-1646), who collected (often using extreme measures), translated, and interpreted Nahuatl spells and invocations. In Snake Poems Francisco Alarc n offered his own poetic responses, reclaiming the colonial manuscript and making it new. This special edition is a tender tribute to Alarc n, who passed away in 2016, and includes Nahuatl, Spanish, and English renditions of the 104 poems based on Nahuatl invocations and spells that have survived more than three centuries. The book opens with remembrances and testimonials about Alarc n's impact as a writer, colleague, activist, and friend from former poet laureate Juan Felipe Herrera and poet and activist Odilia Galv n Rodr guez, who writes, "This book is another one of those doors that Francisco] opened and invited us to enter. This is an insightful look at the real and personal questions that disciples of Christ have in their relationship with Father-God. It is appropriate for adult small group studies or individual growth, but keep a journal of the things that the Holy Spirit impresses upon your heart.

Sometimes Life-Changing
Format: Paperback
I read this book for a class. Though there's nothing heretical within, I didn't agree with all of the author's viewpoints. Some points made were interesting, but the book wasn't of lasting interest to me. I gave it to my dad when I was done, and the book impacted his life, revealing God's love to him in a way he hadn't understood. He loved it so much he bought the sequel.

Well written

Randy Clark is a pillar in healing ministry. He spent so many years studying this specific area of ministry and the way he wrote this book was backed with research, data, and knowledgeable sources. I was very impressed by the way he put together this book and shared stories and testimonies of his experience with faith and healing. Highly recommend!

Personal experience welded together with history and logic.

I heard Randy Clark's name come up on a YouTube video of Bill Johnson's teaching. When I saw that this book was available on the Christian Author's Network on Facebook, I had to have a copy. I love the way Mr. Clark boldly lays out the different beliefs among people groups concerning healing. The way that he pulls together the questions all of us think concerning why some people are healed and others are not is so enlightening. His honesty and sincerity make the reading so easy to jump into. He does not condemn anyone for their beliefs, and is quick to lay out his own questions and answers as well as his own unanswered questions about healing. And the main attraction of this book to me is that it is all scripturally-based. In my opinion, Mr. Clark welds together the logical scientific train of thought with the undeniable Word of God. This is a great book full of personal experience, history and in-depth study of the scriptures concerning healing and how to receive a personal breakthrough and to be a conduit for the Holy Spirit to flow through for the healing of others. Great, anointed book!
