Western Red Cedar is naturally rot resistant and is a flea deterrent. The standard planks are "finger jointed boards" in order to create extra stability and are milled 1" thick by 8" wide. Dimensional milled wood is slightly smaller than the measurements given. The surface area is sanded for a smooth look and feel.
