Unlock dependable, enterprise-grade memory performance with the IBM Compatible 49Y1436 8GB DDR3 RDIMM. Designed for servers and workstations that demand stability, data integrity, and efficient multitasking, this memory module blends advanced ECC (Error-Correcting Code) technology with registered (REG) protection to deliver reliable operation under heavy workloads. As a 240-pin RDIMM, it plugs into compatible IBM and server-class motherboards, providing a robust upgrade path that helps reduce latency, improve throughput, and sustain peak performance even as your applications scale. With a capacity of 8GB and 1333MHz speed, PC3-10600 CL9 memory is a proven choice for memory-intensive environments, from virtualization and database management to scientific computing and virtualization hosts.

  • High-capacity, enterprise-grade memory — 8GB of DDR3 RAM per module ensures ample space for large datasets, multi-VM environments, and demanding workloads, helping to prevent bottlenecks and keep critical applications responsive.
  • 1333MHz speed with ECC REG — PC3-10600 support delivers steady, predictable performance for server workloads. The registered (REG) design provides stronger signal stability, while ECC protects against data corruption, a critical feature for servers and workstations handling sensitive information.
  • Dual Rank for enhanced parallelism — Dual-rank architecture increases memory throughput and bandwidth utilization, optimizing memory access patterns during concurrent tasks and ensuring smoother operation under heavy I/O.
  • 1.5V DDR3 SDRAM technology — Standard DDR3 voltage at 1.5V delivers energy-efficient performance with broad compatibility across IBM-compatible systems and a wide range of server platforms, while maintaining reliable operation under diverse thermal conditions.
  • Lifetime warranty and compatibility — Engineered for long-term reliability, this memory module comes with a lifetime warranty and is designed to be compatible with IBM systems and other enterprise servers that require ECC REG RDIMM modules, making it a smart, durable upgrade choice.

How to install IBM Compatible 49Y1436

Installing this 8GB DDR3 RDIMM is straightforward for most IBM-compatible servers and workstations. Follow these steps to ensure a proper and stable installation that maximizes performance and reliability:

  • Power down the server or workstation completely and unplug the power cord. Disconnect any ancillary cables and peripherals to prevent accidental damage during installation.
  • Ground yourself to prevent static discharge. Use an anti-static wrist strap or touch a grounded metal surface before handling memory modules.
  • Open the memory access panel on the motherboard or server chassis. Identify the correct memory slots compatible with RDIMM modules (usually labeled DDR3, ECC, and REG slots).
  • Align the notches on the RDIMM with the keys in the slot. The 240-pin RDIMM will only seat in one orientation, so do not force it. The notch alignment is essential for proper electrical contact.
  • Insert the module firmly into the slot with even pressure until the retention clips snap into place, securing the module on both sides. Avoid wiggling the module after seating to prevent pin damage.
  • Repeat the process for additional modules if you are populating more than one memory slot. For best performance, install modules in matched pairs or as recommended by your motherboard’s manual to enable dual-channel or multi-channel operation.
  • Replace the memory access panel, reconnect power, and boot the system. Enter the BIOS/UEFI to verify that the system recognizes the new 8GB RDIMM. If needed, enable any memory interleaving or multi-channel settings recommended by the motherboard.
  • Run diagnostics or a memory test (such as a built-in memory checker or a trusted third-party tool) to confirm the module detects correctly and operates without errors. Monitor system stability during initial operation, watching for POST failures or memory-related alarms.

Frequently asked questions

  • Is the IBM Compatible 49Y1436 ECC memory? Yes. It uses Error-Correcting Code (ECC) to detect and correct data corruption on the fly, which is essential for servers and critical workloads.
  • What is the voltage requirement? The module operates at 1.5V for standard DDR3 operation, aligning with most IBM-compatible servers and enterprise-class motherboards.
  • What does REG stand for in REG DIMM? REG stands for Registered memory, which includes a buffer that helps stabilize the memory bus on systems with multiple DIMMs and larger capacities, improving reliability in demanding environments.
  • Will this module work with my IBM server or workstation? It is designed for IBM-compatible systems that support 240-pin DDR3 RDIMM with ECC REG. Always check your motherboard or server’s memory compatibility list for supported module types, speeds, and capacities.
  • Is there a warranty? Yes. This memory module typically comes with a lifetime warranty, providing ongoing assurance for business-critical deployments.

Glad we got it! And will most definitely buy it for our future products!
Great experience! We always bought Asurion Protection on a lot of our electronics to be on the cautious side. We recently had one of those electronics give out on its 3rd year, and we luckily had purchased the Asurion Protection Plan. The claims process was easy, took less than 5 minutes. I packaged the electronic the following day and dropped it off with the shipping label they gave me. I received a full refund of my product within hours of having the returned item dropped off. I am glad we bought Asurion Protection for our other electronics, and will continue to buy it for our future products (not just electronics). Very pleased with how fast and reliable they were, and enjoying the comfort of knowing our products are protected.

Protection Paid Off...Super Quick
The protection plan was easy to obtain and even easier to submit a claim. It came in very handy, especially with a device that you know is important but are uncertain if it will endure "the test of time." Knowing I had the Asurion plan to begin with made me more confident to purchase the device. When the claim needed to be filed it was a breeze and the process from start to reimbursement was super quick. Was happy to get the full paid price back and used it to buy a replacement right away. It's a no-brainer, get it with any electronics...peace of mind so worth it!

Refunded my purchase price
I purchased the "TESmart" 2 computer KVM Switch. I always get the added warranty these day for electronics and I am glad I did. It has now been 3 years and the unit has stopped working correctly. It would switch between computers but the mouse and keyboard stopped working for one of the computers. I'm not sure exactly which component stopped working because the keyboard and mouse worked fine for the other computer. I did plugged the mouse and keyboard directly to the computer in question and they worked fine. I believe the "push threw" stopped for my W11 computer, meanwhile, the W7 computer keeps trucking on. I say all that to say this, it's worth paying a few dollars more to get that little bit of extra security on the electronics these days. Unfortunately the prices have gone up on the KVM switches, at least the ones worth buying so I am in search of a new one now. ASURION was easy to work with. It wasn't that much of a hassle. The slight glitch I experienced was their automatic system didn't register my claim correctly. Only mistake I made was making the claim over a weekend. I would say if you make a claim do it during the normal business hours. I was able to chat with an agent during working hours and they were able to remedy the issue quickly. I did have to ship the KVM switch and its components to Asurion but they paid for shipping and once I was able to package and ship the unit back, Asurion refunded my purchase price completely with an Amazon Gift Card. So, all in all, it's all good!
