This piece started many years ago when I created 5th Avenue A, which was a reflection of my experience in the densely overcrowded city. Since then, my fascination with cities and crowds and the individuals that make them up hasn’t faltered. Instead, it has grown and developed. From the first work titled 5th Avenue A, to the twenty that have followed, the characters have become more refined. Over the years I've traveled to many major cities photographing hundreds of people from the US, Europe, the Middle East, and China to inspire the individuals that now walk in my 5th Avenue paintings. The variety of people represent more developed characters with personalities, life-stories, and depth. This whole series is an evolution of a world walking.
