Der KGB baute auf der 35-mm-Kamera Zorki-6 auf und fügte Verbesserungen an der Elektronik und Optik hinzu. Sie war die erste 35-mm-Kamera mit einem elektronisch gesteuerten Verschluss. Ihr Design erlaubte es, Ersatzobjektive entweder in horizontaler oder vertikaler Position zu montieren.
