Slow-moving and full of character, this rare ambush predator is prized by experienced aquarists for its beauty and unique behavior.
OriginFound across the Indo-Pacific region, including Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, and northern Australia, Rhinopias frondosa inhabits sandy or rubble bottoms near coral reefs, blending perfectly into its surroundings to ambush unsuspecting prey.
FeedingA carnivorous ambush predator that feeds primarily on small fish and crustaceans. It often requires live foods such as shrimp or small fish initially but can be trained to accept frozen meaty foods like silversides, krill, or mysis once acclimated. Feed every 1–2 days.
Tank MatesBest housed with peaceful, larger tank mates that are too big to be eaten—such as tangs, angels, or larger wrasses. Avoid aggressive species and small fish or shrimp, which will be viewed as prey.
