Our mind is our most personal possession. We use only a fraction of its capability. We reveal just a small percentage of it to others throughout our lives. Yet it is something with which we are intensely familiar – we live with it constantly. There is no escape, and no rest from it. And there is no doubt that God is pleased when we use it in the right way to serve Him. But the world in which we live has plenty of other diversions and distractions for the mind. We are bombarded with them constantly. Over time we can become blind to their danger and the damage they can do to our mind’s ability to think spiritually.
Controlling our minds is how we conquer our temptations. It is how we make progress along the road to the Kingdom, by God’s grace. If we can get our minds right, then our words and actions, habits and character will follow. The way that we think is entirely within our grasp – and it might be the most important focus of our entire lives in the Truth.
This book is a study of the mind of Christ in Paul’s letter to the Philippians, and also a practical handbook of how we might make better use of our thinking. It builds on the exhortation, “Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus.” (Phil. 2:5).
