Luxurious 1849 Reproduction Staunton chess set with 4.4-inch ebony king, matched with a stunning Spanish mongoy palisander chessboard and mahogany case, crafted for elegance, play, and legacy.

At 4.4 inches, the king is a stately figure with his intricate finial and double banding on his collar. He, along with his supporting army, is perfectly weighted for balance, and billiard cloth covers their bases to protect your board.

You will notice that the kings in this set are branded at the base with the words “Staunton 1849”. These ebony reproduction pieces also bear the original markings of the king's crown on one black knight, one black rook, one white knight and one white rook, and, as we know, these pieces will sit on the king's flank.

The grade of ebony and boxwood used to create it makes this set not only an enviable acquisition but also a fantastic investment and stunning heirloom for future generations.

These lovely chessmen have been matched with this extra-large, high-quality mongoy palisander (Rosewood) and maple veneer chessboard. Produced in Spain by one of the world's most prestigious manufacturers, the deepest red grain of this particular type of rosewood is magnificent; the attention to detail and meticulous edging are superb. Finished in an eggshell low sheen lacquer, this board is perfect for these larger chess pieces.

If you can bear to put your pieces away whilst not in use, this beautifully made chess piece case is the perfect accompaniment to this luxury set. Crafted from mahogany, this beautiful box has deep reddish hues, which are complemented by the brass hinges and lock. The interior is fully lined with green flocking to protect your prize pieces when not in play. It is important to note that they will only fit lying down, which is quite normal. Wooden pieces are hardwood and will come to no harm.
