Lapis Lazuli from Latin, Lapis means “Stone” and the Persian word Lazhuward means “Blue” is a rich dark blue with gold flecks. During the Renaissance Lapis made its way to Europe where artists would use the stone to create an Ultramarine pigment for paintings. Opal, from the Sanskrit word Upala, was the most valued stone during the Middle Ages because it was said that the stone held great luck and supernatural powers. Today Opal is still sought out for jewelry because of its mixture of colors of blue and green making every piece beautiful.
