The Grumello cru of Valtellina Superiore takes its name from Castel Grumello, built in the early 1300s by the De Piro family, rulers of Sondrio (the village at the centre of the Valtellina region). The name derives from the Latin ‘grumus’, meaning hill or rise. Vineyards here lie between 350 and 500 metres and span two distinct geological areas: the southern promontory, heavily shaped by glacial erosion, and the northern slopes, formed from moraine deposits and mountain scree. Wines from the first area tend to be finer and more delicate, while those from the second are richer and more mineral. This is a 100% Nebbiolo wine, a careful blend of both terroir expressions of Grumello. Vinified with temperature control and post‑fermentative maceration, it is matured for around 24 months in oak.

The wine shows a ruby colour tending toward garnet, with a delicate yet defined nose of aromatic clove and cinnamon spice layered over red berries and a balsamic note. The palate is dry, elegant and slightly austere, with fine tannins.
