Distilled in Tennessee, Kentucky, Indiana, and Wyoming, this bourbon showcases a remarkable depth of flavor and complexity. With an alcohol by volume (ABV) of 55.06%, it offers a powerful yet refined drinking experience.
The bourbon presents a deep maroon color, with hints of rust and baker’s chocolate. Its nose is rich with the scent of vanilla bean, intertwined with goldenrod and a treacly sweetness that recalls dark brown sugar and sugarcane. The age has enhanced the grain’s character, imparting notes of tres leches cake, granola, and macadamia nuts. Subtle herbal undertones of sage, tonka bean, and menthol, along with plump raisins and fig newtons, round out the aromatic profile.
On the palate, Barrell 'Gray Label' delivers a balance of biscuit-like sweetness and spicy warmth. The taste of s’mores, amaretti, and oatmeal raisin cookies is complemented by hints of crystallized ginger, peppermint, and black peppercorn. Oak tannins add texture, while the finish offers lingering flavors of fresh ginger, fennel seed, and cardamom, transitioning into cocoa powder and grapefruit peel. A splash of water brings forward chocolate ganache, coconut in various forms, and notes of demerara rum, nutmeg, and lime zest, with a finish that evolves into apricot and cherry eaux-de-vie.
