Er zijn gitaren die je herkent aan één noot. De Gretsch G6120T-55 Vintage Select Edition '55 Chet Atkins Hollow Body with Bigsby is er zo een. Gebaseerd op het originele ontwerp uit 1955, co-ontwikkeld met de legendarische Chet Atkins, is dit instrument een directe verbinding met de gouden jaren van Gretsch. Geen reïnterpretatie, geen modernisering: dit is de 6120 zoals hij bedoeld was.

Het geluid wordt bepaald door een paar TV Jones T-Armond single-coil pickups, die bekendstaan om hun heldere, gelaagde toon met een karakteristieke twang en glasachtige hoge tonen. De nieuwe Gretsch "Squeezebox" condensatoren zorgen voor een uitzonderlijk soepele taper en zijdezachte vintage highs. Via de traditionele Gretsch-bediening blend je de pickups naar wens, wat een enorm palet aan toonvariaties oplevert. De Bigsby B6GBVF vibrato tailpiece voegt die onmiskenbare, licht zwevende vibrato toe, terwijl de gepinde aluminium compensated bridge de stemming stabiel houdt.

De hals heeft een klassiek "U"-profiel in esdoorn, met een rosewood fretboard van 12" radius en 22 medium jumbo frets. De body is opgebouwd uit gelamineerd flame maple, zowel top als rug en zijkanten, met een gelamineerde maple body. Afwerking in glanzend nitrocellulose lak, aged white binding met zwarte purfling, aged pearloid block inlays met Western-motief, gouden G-arrow knoppen, een vintage dik plexi pickguard met Gretsch-logo en gouden Grover Sta-Tite stemsleutels. Elke detail ademt het tijdperk.

A familiar story, just with…..less.

So, as other reviewers make clear, this is very similar to Pack Darling and The Beta. It’s much closer aligned with The Beta, in plot and maybe more like Pack Darling with characters. That being said, I don’t hate this…..but it wasn’t great either. It’s both books mentioned but just….less. Less angst, less emotion, less feeling. The plot feels very half fleshed out, and the “bad guy” feels underwhelming. I didn’t really feel any real emotions from and of the male leads, except maybe Oliver. The others fell sorta flat for me. And Mika makes herself out to be this big bad ass straight outta training and then we never see it from here again with the one fitting room incident as the exception. SPOILER: The whole, “Oh, I’m actually probably an Omega, but I don’t wanna be but I do actually wanna be but no one can ever know my secret that I do nothing to hide “ thing fell so flat. She never commutes to believing she was secretly an omega, but also mentions her “secret” a lot. It just felt so manufactured. I’m intrigued enough to read part 2 and see how the author closes everything out, but this is not one I’ll recommend or ever come back to.
