The Quintet Black S is the best example of Quintet’s overall excellence

The Quintet Black S is graced with a Nude Shibata diamond, considered one of the best stylus profiles available, mounted on a high-performance Sapphire cantilever.

The Shibata’s slim, highly polished profile allows an exceedingly wide contact area to the walls of the groove and ensures detailed and pure reproduction throughout the spectrum, including even the most high frequency groove information.

The ST-7 transformer is a perfect match for the MC Quintet Black cartridge.

LH-4000 headshell is specially recommended for MC Quintet cartridges series.

Group Test

Sound quality
With the correct level set, the Ortofon reveals itself to be a highly distinctive yet talented performer. This most clearly manifests itself as a slightly dark tonal balance that helps it to sound refined and powerful...
...What is interesting is that the tonal balance doesn’t restrict the energy at the top end of the frequency response...
...This is a very big and effortless-sounding cartridge....
...Vocals are given presence and detail, but without losing their relationship to the supporting musicians...

The new Sapphire cantilever solution

Multiple studies show that demand for strategic natural resources continues to increase. New technologies use ever-increasing amounts of rare and strategic resources. Understandable that this increasing demand may complicate future supply.

Over the decades, there has been an increase in the use of Boron. Elemental Boron is mostly used in high tech applications. One of Boron's benefits for our modern technology is its use in neodymium magnets, which are an alloy of neodymium, iron and boron. Boron has also been applied in manufacturing of phono cartridges: Boron cantilevers are strong, stiff, light and 100% inert. From all possible options Boron cantilever is the best, but unfortunately extremely difficult to obtain.

To make sure future supplies of the Ortofon High-End cartridges, we will henceforward reserve the use of Boron cantilevers for our Exclusive series.

The new MC Quintet Black S model is graced with Shibata stylus on the Sapphire cantilever. Sapphire is one of the best cantilever options that provides an excellent mechanical pulse transfer from the stylus to the coil system.

The Quintet Black S, like its predecessor Quintet Black, produces detailed and pure reproduction though-out the spectrum, volume and soundstage.

MC Quintet Black accessories included the package

  • 1 x Stylus brush, fibre
  • 1 x Screwdriver
  • 1 x Stylus pressure gauge/Scale
  • 2 x Screw M2,5 x 5

Ease of use

Top-mounting of the Quintet cartridges is easy and secure using the screws supplied. The aluminuim frame has threaded mounting holes and is fitted easily with the 5mm or 7mm screws depending on the thickness of the headshell.

The Quintet series’ right angles, straight lines, stylus visibility and ample distance between the record surface and the cartridge’s bottom will make it easy to mount and align the cartridge and tonearm correctly. The Quintet Series gives excellent results with most common tonearms.

Feels nice and looks great
Size: 80% Tenkeyless, Size: 80% Tenkeyless
I bought this wrist rest in like new condition for $6 and I will say it’s 100% worth MSRP at $15-20. The weight is nice, it doesn’t slip on my mousepad. It’s very comfortable to rest my palms and wrist on. The sizing pairs well with my 80% keyboard. It functions as it should. I use this at a stand up desk on an industrial shop floor to help put my wrist at a better angle and it works perfect.

Decent; does the job
Size: 100% Standard
Cushion feels very porous and thin. I suppose you can call it memory foam because it basically sunk where I usually rest my wrist and has not returned to its original shape (lol). The small rubber pads on the underside help a bit but slip resistance would probably be better if they covered a larger area. Overall, it's not bad for sub $20 full size kb wrist rest.

Is does the job, love it.
Size: 60% Compact
Is really comfy, it does the job, you can't go wrong with it. Just buy it if you have a 75% keyboard or less because is not long. For me is not a problem.

Nice wrist rest
Size: 100% Standard
Comfortable angle, solid enough to not move around but soft enough to be good for long term usage.

Excellent wrist rest, BUT not for me
I'm rating this wrist rest 5 stars despite the fact that it's not for me. The reason that it is not for me is simple: My palms get very sweaty, and this makes my palms stick to the wrist rest, making it hard to move my hands around. This is an inherent limitation of the fact that it is made out of wood, and drove me to the 17" x 4" x 0.75" foam wrist rest from Grifiti instead. If you don't have sweaty palms, however, this wrist rest is perfect. It is 4 inches deep instead of the typical 3.1 inches, it is the perfect height and tapered just so for maximum comfort, the wood (Golden Oak color) is beautiful, and the engraved logo is tasteful and non-intrusive.
