Chatillon is Ed Peter‘s (owner of Australia’s Yarra Yering) project in the French Alps. Vines up to 40 years of age grown in Chautagne area of Savoie close to Lac de Bourget which used to be called “Chatillon” south east of Annecy in the French Alps. The label depicts the castle Chateau de Chatillon that goes back to 1125 (has been refurbished into a residence)  situated on the property.

The Chautagne area of Savoie enjoys warmer daytime climate (with alpine cold nights) and the only area in Savoie where red wines are dominant with Gamay comprising 50% of production (with Mondeuse & Pinot Noir the remainder).

Organic viticultural practices (uncertified), 100% estate grown fruit, handpicking and hands off winemaking practices in the winery: wild yeasts, some solids in ferments. No oak maturation.

This is a super tasty medium weight red – 100% Gamay. Lifted aromatics red and black fruits, more-ish savoury character and pristine alpine purity.  Reminds me of sangiovese meets pinot noir/cru beaujolais with alpine freshness. Very rare to see Savoie wines outside the region.

Treat yourself to a taste of the French Alps with this delightful ‘rouge’… Smart offering – and a winner for quality and value.   13% Alc.  Vive les montagnes!

Reviews for previous vintage:  “A light-bodied red in a savoury style, smelling of forest floor, dried herbs and dried flowers, with a cherry bonbon background. Gentle texture, very light tannins, easy drinking.”  Huon Hooke, The Real Review

“It’s medium-bodied, silty tannin, a little sweet and sour, but full of energy, with a cool and tangy finish of solid length, Brisk. Good flavour. Raspberries and herbs. Heaps of character. I like it.” Mike Bennie, The Wine Front

My daughter and I enjoy reading this. She matches the pictures on the pages with those on the buttons. Lots of words she already knows and a good mix of new words. Durable hardback pages.

Who doesn't like Eric Carle books?
Format: Board book
Always been a fan of Eric Carle books. My 10 month old likes the sounds and pictures. He has other similar books, but we like him to see a variety of illustrations. With the pandemic going on, my he is missing out on a lot. One day we will go to the zoo and see real animals, but for now these books will have to do.
