CERBERUS Nicol Walking Stone Handles are the official replicas of the ring handles and pick-up heights of the real Nicol Walking Stones. Our handles will get you ready for this epic challenge and let you train like the pros!

History

These modern day Scottish strength testing stones were created by legendary Dinnie Stone lifter Brett Nicol. NO-ONE has lifted the Dinnie Stones as many times as Brett! He has currently lifted them a total of 499 times (correct as of 07/08/2023). Brett originally made these stones for his own training to replicate the side-by-side carrying style when walking with the Dinnie Stones. Over the years the Nicol Stones grew in reputation among Scottish stonelifters and soon inevitably made their way into competition. They first publicly appeared in the IHGF Stones of Strength National Final in 2019 where Luke Stoltman carried them 63’ 3” (19.3m). This gave these stones the exposure they deserved and the event captured the hearts and minds of the public. Due to the combination of strength, grit and determination required to carry the stones they soon became a fan favourite. This propelled them into the highest levels of competition being featured at many Giants Live events including Europe’s Strongest Man, the World Tour Finals, Scotland’s Strongest Man and more. They have their own Guinness World Record and have become a legendary test of strength in their own right!

The Challenge

The test of strength with these stones is not just to pick them up which is a feat of strength in itself, but to walk with them for distance. The heavier stone weighs 138kg (304lbs), and the lighter stone weighs 114kg (251lbs) for a total of 252kg (555.5lbs). They are very humbling to try and even the strongest men and women in the world find them a challenge. This is due in part because of the thin steel handles that feel VERY different from the bar and will cause a lot of pain. Also the stones are not perfectly balanced like farmers walk or a frame carry and also bash and bang your legs causing them to swing about every step.

The Rules

  • Athletes must carry the stones as far as possible along the 20 meter course.
  • Athletes are allowed a single drop along with a 10 second break, after which they must continue to carry the stones.
  • Once the athlete drops the stones a second time, their attempt is over and the distance is measured.
  • If an athlete manages to reach the end of the 20m course, they must turn around and continue the walk back down the course.
  • If the athlete reaches the end of the 20m course before their first drop, they are allowed to drop the stones and pick them up in the opposite direction instead of turning with the stones in hand. This is treated as their single allowed drop.
  • If the athlete reaches the end of the 20m course after taking their allowed drop they must continue to carry the stones whilst turning back.
  • After the athlete’s second (and final) drop, the distance is measured from the starting line to the front of the farthest stone.

Must read for finding quiet in a chaotic world!
Format: Paperback
In Reclaiming Quiet, Sarah Clarkson invites readers on a profound journey into the heart of stillness, urging us to cultivate an interior world where we can truly listen for God’s voice. With lyrical prose and deep insight, Clarkson explores the significance of silence in our often chaotic lives, reminding us that it is in these quiet moments that we can hear the whispers of grace. The book is rich with personal anecdotes, theological reflections, and practical guidance on how to create a sacred space for contemplation and rest. Clarkson eloquently argues that every Christian is called to nurture this interior world, making it a place of expectant silence where we can encounter God’s Word in our darkness and be renewed. One of the most striking aspects of Clarkson's writing is her unwavering faith in the goodness of God, which she believes can outlast any trial we may face. Her words resonate with hope and encourage readers to seek rest in a divine presence that transcends the tumult of life. Overall, Reclaiming Quiet is a beautifully crafted invitation to embrace stillness and reconnect with our spiritual selves. It’s a must-read for anyone looking to deepen their faith and find peace in the midst of a noisy world. Whether you're seasoned in your spiritual journey or just beginning to explore, this book will guide you toward a richer, more contemplative life. Highly recommended!

Beautiful, insightful, filled with wisdom and depth
Format: Paperback
This is, hands down, the most beautiful, meaningful book I have read this year. It is also already topping my list of favorite books of all time; it is so masterfully written. Sarah Clarkson is a gifted storyteller who writes with grace, wisdom, vulnerable insight, and the art of weaving into her work the tone of a kindred spirit. Her personal perspective on capturing the essence of quiet-- even in the midst of the pulls and noise of life-- is gleaned from years of study as well as personal hunger and pursuit. As someone in a busy, sometimes chaotic time of life, I have found myself craving a deeper peace and centered calm that has felt illusive and impossible. I have been so eager for Ms. Clarkson's book to be released, and it was absolutely worth waiting for. I keep returning to its pages to let the words soak in, like water to a weary soul. Her words are lyrical, almost musical to read, and each story she shares, or quote from a book or poem, is chosen carefully to speak perfectly to the topic of quiet. I know this will be a book to read over and over again, to continue to grasp the truth it holds-- always pointing back to the true Master of our peace-- Christ.

A refuge in the noise of life
Format: Paperback
There are some books that are so good, so nourishing, so deeply satisfying and life giving to read that it is hard to know how to write a review that does them justice. This is one of those books. As if she is sitting across the cafe table from you, drinking her coffee and sharing her life, Sarah is a master story teller who captivates your attention as she tells story after story that pertains to her personal quest and exploration of the pursuit of Quiet. The chapters have titles such as "the halcyon day", "wise woman's cottage", and "seeing from the inside". Subtitles include "imagination, "assent and amazement", and "cadence". Split into sections (the nature of quiet, the shape of quiet, the gifts of quiet) this book takes the subject of a True Quiet and wrestles, examines, instructs about, and celebrates it from all angles. I've read books that talk about how to have new habits and rhythms, slowing down in our busy social media filled age, and bringing order the the chaos of daily life, but this book trumps them all with the questions it asks, the way in which she communicates what she has learned. Every chapter ends with prayer and more questions and thoughts to ponder. The structure lends beautifully to a small group discussion. I know I will be rereading and pondering over the ideas in this book for a long time (I am not usually a highlighter and book marker but this one is covered with passages I just had to mark and remember). This is a perfect book to read as we enter the end-year holiday season and I want to give to all my friends and family to nurture and encourage their souls. Sarah pulls from across her lifetime with her personal experiences, lessons, and tales, so I believe you can read this at any stage of adulthood and you will be encouraged and strengthened in your faith. This will be a book you keep reaching for it again and again that will continue to instruct, encourage, and inspire you across the years. It should say "Welcome weary traveler, enter to find rest". (This is probably one of the longest reviews I've ever written so bear with me if there are typos.)

This book is a grace…
Format: Paperback
In a world increasingly characterized by noise-from the actual noise of electric gadgets & gizmos to the societal noise of online activity, constantly refreshing posts & pages, & opinions at the ready on everything happening all the time-this book is a breath, an exhale, a pause. Sarah Clarkson offers not a ready-made formula for navigating the online world or strategies for self-care, but an invitation to explore, alongside her, another way of being, a world where deep, soul-healing quiet is available. She uses her own story to ask universal questions of origin, design & relationship with our Maker. You don't feel when reading that you're sitting under the teachings of a lofty, "arrived" guru, but that you're taking the extended hand of a fellow traveler as you walk home together. Sarah's writing is a companion, a warm conversation over tea & a deeply enriching exploration of life with God & at peace with ourselves. Engaging, academic (yet readable), inspiring & kind. Welcome to Sarah Clarkson's beautiful writing-a gift. I am *so* pleased she has decided to share with the world.

Devotional classic for our time
Format: Paperback
“I’ve always borne a hunger for something that seemed as distant as starlight and as wide as the night sky itself. I want the world and what is behind it, the potent beauty it simultaneously reveals and veils. I think we all do…” If you can feel the intensity of this hunger in your own life and wonder how to acknowledge it in the midst of too-busy lives and a myriad of distractions, you will be inspired to rest within the tension of this by "Reclaiming Quiet”. Sarah Clarkson has followed her previous study of God’s goodness, This Beautiful Truth, with this soothing expression of our need for quiet in order to experience the extraordinary. Using a similar narrative of personal memoir and spiritual discovery, she describes her own journey towards being satisfied with the quiet of the ordinary. She writes of how the distractions inherent in our world, while ostensibly a quest for the extraordinary, can actually lead us in the opposite direction, and how learning to cultivate quiet is so necessary. “Quiet in this world; perhaps is most often the vessel that bears us out of darkness and into hope." Each chapter closes with a gentle prayer and an invitation to ponder our own discoveries through thought-provoking questions relating to what we’ve just read. Reclaiming Quiet is surely destined to be a devotional classic for our time. I read an advance copy but I’ve already pre-purchased copies to give away and I’m planning to reread Reclaiming Quiet as a personal devotional study, but it would also be perfect as a group read/ study.
