What it's used for

  • Exterior joinery including window frames, door frames, and sills where decay resistance is required
  • Garden furniture, benches, and outdoor seating where a teak alternative is preferred
  • Interior furniture construction and cabinetry requiring a stable, close-grained hardwood
  • Architectural and structural joinery in commercial or residential fit-out projects

Fitting and handling

Allow iroko to acclimatise to the environment where it will be installed for at least five to seven days before cutting or fixing, particularly in heated interiors. When machining, use a reduced cutting angle of approximately 15 degrees to limit grain tear-out and tool dulling caused by the interlocked grain. For exterior applications, finish with a suitable hardwood oil or exterior grade finish to protect the surface and maintain the natural colour.

FAQ

Is iroko a good substitute for teak in exterior joinery?

Yes. Iroko shares many of teak's key properties, including natural decay resistance and good dimensional stability when kiln dried. It is widely accepted in the UK joinery trade as a cost-effective alternative for external window and door components, garden furniture, and outdoor structures.

What does FAS grade mean for iroko hardwood?

FAS stands for Firsts and Seconds, which is the highest standard grade assigned by the National Hardwood Lumber Association. Boards graded FAS must yield a high proportion of clear, defect-free cuttings, making this grade suitable for joinery and furniture work where appearance and consistency matter.

Does iroko require pre-drilling before fixing?

Because iroko is a dense hardwood, pre-drilling pilot holes before screwing or nailing is strongly recommended to prevent splitting and to ensure a secure fixing. Stainless steel or other corrosion-resistant fixings should be used in exterior applications to avoid staining from reaction with the wood's natural oils.

Great Pillow!
Size: King (Pack of 1)
Excellent product. I have been searching for a pillow that wasn't too soft or too hard and supported my neck. I now wake up without a stiff neck and a headache. Wonderful!

I have only had this pillow for 8 month and it is flat and not comfortable anymore. I sent the company an email and they never responded. I do now recommend that you buy this pillow.

The pillows have a chemical smell
Size: King (Pack of 1)
I bought two Marlow pillows a while ago. They are great pillows. The two new Marlow pillows I just purchased have a chemical odor. The manufacture date is Sept. 2024. I have them airing out hoping the smell will dissipate , so far that has not happened.
