Also known as tin mordant, stannous chloride, tin crystals, “muriate of tin” (historic term).

Description
Tin has been used by dyers since the 17th century. It is particularly effective at making reds, oranges, and insect dyes such as cochineal appear more brilliant and clear. While alum provides strength and fastness, tin acts as an “assist” to shift colours into a brighter register. Because it can make fibres brittle if overused, it is best applied sparingly and in combination with other mordants.

Historical Note
The discovery of tin as a dye mordant is credited to Cornelis Drebbel (1572–1633), a Dutch alchemist and inventor. Around the 1620s, he found that treating cochineal with tin salts produced a brilliant crimson red far brighter than the scarlets obtained with alum alone. This “secret crimson” became famous in European dye houses, reserved for royal cloth and military uniforms.

By the 18th century, tin mordants were well established in European workshops. Chemist Claude-Louis Berthollet(1748–1822) gave the first systematic explanation of how stannous chloride interacts with dye molecules, describing its role in producing luminous scarlets in his 1791 Éléments de l’art de la teinture.

Active Component
Stannous chloride (SnCl₂·2H₂O).

CI Colour Name
Not classified as a dye (used as a mordant/assist).

Advantages

  • Produces clear, bright shades, especially with reds and oranges.
  • Enhances the brilliance of cochineal, lac, and kermes.
  • Shifts flavonoid yellows towards cleaner, brighter tones.
  • Best used in small amounts

Safety Notes

  • Wear gloves, apron, and dust mask when handling.
  • Avoid prolonged contact with fibres to prevent brittleness.
  • Store in a dry, clearly labelled container.
  • Light fastness: improved brilliance, though long-term stability depends on the dye used.

Source
Prepared for professional textile use as crystalline stannous chloride.

Great for potty training
Size: 3T-4T, Unit Count: 20
We really like these pull ups and they have worked well for us during potty training. They are easy to pull on and off, which is great for toddlers who are learning to be more independent. They fit well and do a good job containing messes without leaking. I also like that they feel comfortable and not too bulky, so my child can move around easily. Overall, these have been a reliable option for us and something we continue to use during this stage.

Preferred by daycare teachers!
Size: 4T-5T, Unit Count: 99
Preferred by daycares because they open and close on the sides and kids can learn to pull on and take on on their own

Nice
Size: 3T-4T, Unit Count: 112
Good pull ups, it could get a little linty but it fits perfectly on my toddler. It stretches which I love. I do love how I could strap and unstrap the sides of the pull up. The designs on the pull up are cute. It holds a lot of pee and soaks it up very well. It’s comfortable on my toddler and the pee and poop doesn’t leak out of it. It is worth the money.

The Fast & the Curious- Potty Drift
Size: 5T-6T, Unit Count: 60
Who knew toddler potty training required both a PhD in fluid dynamics and Jedi mind tricks? These Pull-Ups prove the science part: leak-proof, absorbent, and surprisingly soft. The toddler-psychology part? That’s a battle of wills. Our little one was a die-hard fan of Huggies diapers—too loyal, in fact. We begged, we bribed, we pleaded: “Please, let’s move on!” Resistance was fierce. So we went stealth mode, sneaking Pull-Ups on at night like parents on a covert mission. Credit to mom—she cracked the code and finally got the kid interested in the toilet. Suddenly, the “potty rush” moments became less of a flood and more of a sprint. Diapers were too slow to peel off; Pull-Ups gave our little sprinter the speed boost they needed. They’re soft, rash-free, and practically leak-proof (unlike that other brand we don’t speak of). Pro tip: size up for easier toddler self-removal. The result? A drier, happier kid, less laundry for us, and the toilet finally earning MVP status. If you’re ready for your toddler to graduate from Diaper University, this is the diploma. Bonus: you’ll save money too.

Mom of 3 recommend!
Size: 5T-6T, Unit Count: 14
I'm using these again for the 3rd time and they're great as always. My 3rd is still having some issues at night time with bed wetting, and as they get older the bigger the mess, so these truly hold up to a full bladder. And they don't smell by morning like some diaper brands. I'm usually against pull ups, but these are great for up and down ease of use and that added protection when it comes to potty training. I love the bigger size inclusion for larger children which we struggle with for comfort compared to other brands.
