Biblical counselors have worked for decades to demonstrate that God’s resources in Scripture are sufficient to help people with their counseling-related problems. In Counseling the Hard Cases, editors Stuart Scott and Heath Lambert use the true stories of real patients to show how the truths of God’s Word can be released to bring help, hope, and healing into the lives of those who struggle with some of the most difficult psychiatric diagnoses. From pastors and academics to physicians and psychiatrists, a world-class team of contributing counselors share accounts of Scripture having helped overcome bipolar, dissociative identity, and obsessive compulsive disorders, postpartum depression, panic attacks, addiction, issues from childhood sexual abuse, homosexuality, and more. The book also shows how the graces of Christ, as revealed in the Bible, brought powerful spiritual change to the lives of such people who seemed previously burdened beyond hope by mental and emotional roadblocks. Contributors include John Babler, Ph.D., Kevin Carson, D.Min., Laura Hendrickson, M.D., Garrett Higbee, Psy.D., Robert Jones, D.Min., Martha Peace, RN, Steve Viars, D.Min., and Dan Wickert, M.D.

______________

‘As a student pursuing Biblical Counseling, this book has been magnificently helpful. In their books, Biblical Counseling authors are always discussing the heart, idolatry, sin, and hope through the power of God's grace and the work of the Holy Spirit. This book shows that Biblical Counselors aren't "all talk". They literally apply what they teach, both to their own lives and in their counseling. And it works. Biblical Counseling doesn't seek to alleviate only the temporary problems counselees come in with. Biblical Counseling seeks to teach, to bring about sanctification, and to bring people closer to God. Biblical Counseling challenges counselees to take a good look at themselves and see themselves in light of God's Word. They are broken, fallen, sinful people. But they are not only that. They are redeemed, through the blood of Jesus, and by the power of God through His Word, the Holy Spirit, and the efforts of the counselees, they can overcome sin and become more like Christ…Thank the LORD, the editors, the contributors, and the counselees (anonymous though they may be) for this work. It is a very real work dealing with very real people (mostly), both counselors and counselees, and a real God who causes real change. This is a book every Biblical Counselor should have. No case is exactly the same. But these cases provide hope for the counselor and for the counselee. These cases also help give examples of ways to frame counseling and how to approach various "hard cases". Joshua Wagner, Biblical Counseling, Crossroads Bible College

Some of the scripting is rather good, especially for safe touch
Format: Paperback
I was rather excited about this book initially. The work pages are done well for their appropriate age levels and I felt the lessons were okay. Some of the scripting is rather good, especially for safe touch. However, it is mostly seat work. I was looking for something that would work with all learning styles better and include a few interacting activities, maybe even a game. I have quite a few kinesthetic learners so I have had to come up with my own activities to go along with it.

I taught these lessons to my students at the end of the school year which can be a hectic time. I could tell the students really understood the love languages and were applying them at school and at home. I look forward to using it to start off the new school year.
