De verhouding van gebruikte grondstoffen bepaalt in hoge mate de eigenschappen van het product. EPDM is een polymeer en dus zeer goed te vervormen. Dit is terug te zien in de hoge elasticiteit. Verder is EPDM bruikbaar bij zeer hoge en lage temperaturen. Ook is het goed bestand tegen UV invloeden en zuren. Tenslotte heeft het een hoge levensduur van minimaal 50 jaar.

Tenslotte heeft het een hoge levensduur van minimaal 50 jaar. Een dakbedekking van EPDM kan brandveilig en vliegvuurbestendig worden aangebracht conform NEN6050. Hoewel EPDM vooral bekend staat als dakbekledingsmateriaal, wordt het ook gebruikt als folie voor waterbassins, isolatiemateriaal, afdichtingsringen, strips tuinslangen enzovoort.
