Achter de eenvoudige witte vitrages van het Volendamse Hotel Spaander ligt de kiem van een cruciale periode in de Nederlandse kunstgeschiedenis. De gastvrijheid van uitbaters Leendert en Aaltje Spaander, de levendige avonden en de ateliers op de begane grond bleken vanaf 1881 een magneet voor grote getalen kunstenaars. Uit de hele wereld kwamen ze naar Volendam: ruim 1400 schilders, onder wie zo’n 200 vrouwen. Wat ze aan de Zuiderzee ontdekten waren de typisch Hollandse luchten en het destijds al beroemde Hollandse licht, maar ook verdraagzaamheid en openheid. Toch bleef Spaander als kunstenaarskolonie relatief onbekend – en dat is een kolfje naar de hand van Jan Brokken. Zoals hij stelt in De ontdekking van Holland : je weet altijd te weinig over je eigen land. Opnieuw wekt hij een fascinerende onderbelichte geschiedenis tot leven.Jan Brokken (1949) is schrijver van romans, reisverhalen en literaire non-fi ctie. Ook internationaal verwierf hij faam, met onder meer De blinde passagiers, Mijn kleine waanzin, Baltische zielen, In het huis van de dichter, De vergelding, De Kozakkentuin, De rechtvaardigen, Stedevaart en De kampschilders. Zijn werk is vertaald in onder meer het Chinees, Engels, Frans, Duits, Italiaans, Russisch, Tsjechisch, Portugees en Spaans.

Great value and capacity for the real estate ratio is perfect.
It certainly takes up less real estate on my desk with a very high port capacity. It's solid and I like the fact that it can attached to a thicker surface. It was very easy to install and the plugs give good options as there's always some cord that can't be plugged in. The USBs are a bonus as I already have ports on a different device. But, I'm sure I'll end up using these USB ports eventually. The value is really good for the capacity you get. Having the strip further in to use the back plugs easier makes a lot of sense. Could be an issue for some who don't have table real estate as it does push the strip in a bit.
