De Rhododendron hybride 'Catawbiense Grandiflorum' is een plant waarvan de uitstraling net zo schitterend is als de naam. Deze heester behoort tot de groenblijvende haagplanten en zorgt dus fijn het hele jaar door voor uitzicht op groen!

Groenblijvende plant met paarse bloemen

De rhododendron Catawbiense Grandiflorum is een groenblijvende plant met paarse bloemen die veel wordt toegepast voor het maken van een haag. En ook solitair of als vakbeplanting komt de soort goed tot zijn recht. De paarse bloemen bloeien in mei en juni. Tip: Combineer met anders gekleurde rhododendrons voor een nog vrolijkere aanblik, bijvoorbeeld met de witgele rhododendron Flava of de oranje rhododendron Tortoiseshell Orange.

Deze rhododendron planten doe je het liefst in een zure, humusrijke en waterdoorlatende bodem. Gooi eventueel wat tuinturf in het plantgat bij aanplanten om de groei te bevorderen. De Catawbiense Grandiflorum is zeer goed winterhard en kan zowel in de zon als schaduw geplant worden. De groeisnelheid bedraagt zo’n 10 tot 20 cm. per jaar en snoeien is dan ook nauwelijks aan de orde. Hooguit eens per jaar om de vorm mooi te houden. Afhankelijk van de standplaats groeit deze groenblijvende plant met paarse bloemen tot een hoogte van maximaal 1,5 tot 2,5 meter.
