De term ‘Jazz-fusion’ zorgt doorgaans voor meer afschuw dan nieuwsgierigheid. Love Cry Want positioneert zich echter aan het verste uiteinde van dit genre, waarbij het tegen avant-garde, psych en zelfs industrial aan schuurt. Spil van de band is een mysterieuze gitaar-wizard genaamd Nicholas, die een soort prototype gitaar-synth bestiert. Voeg daar o.a. organist Larry Young aan toe, die de opname van Bitches Brew nog maar net achter de kiezen heeft. In 1972 gaf de groep een reeks concerten rondom het witte huis, waarbij ook deze plaat werd opgenomen. Het verhaal gaat dat president Nixon persoonlijk opdracht gaf om de concerten te staken omdat hij bang was dat het witte huis zou gaan zweven… |
