Deze 79 meter hoge rode toren is de enige in Nederland met deze bijzondere kleur. Hij is niet altijd rood geweest, ook geel en wit. Bij de laatste restauratie in 1984 werd hij weer rood gemaakt. 

De toren werd in de middeleeuwen geverfd om het mergelsteen te beschermen tegen weersinvloeden. De verf werd van mergeldelen gemaakt die doordrenkt waren met ijzeroer, het resultaat was een ossenbloedkleurige verf. 

Met lasersnijden wordt deze stadstoren uit massief Nederlands Essenhout gesneden. Elke toren heeft een unieke uitstraling!
