Hij voorzag veel huizen van een statige neoclassicistische voorgevel met sobere decoratie in empire stijl.

Gerrit van der Wielen (1767-1858) trok in 1787 naar de stad Leeuwarden om zich te ontwikkelen van metselaarsknecht tot allround timmerbaas. Zijn sociale netwerk groeide binnen verenigingen en genootschappen en door functies in dienst van het stadsbestuur. Zijn particuliere bouwbedrijf werd het grootste van de stad. Hij voorzag veel huizen van een statige neoclassicistische voorgevel met sobere decoratie in empire stijl. In de voormalige schuilkerk achter zijn woonhuis stichtte hij een drukbezocht zalencentrum, waarin hij zijn bezoekers een staaltje van zijn kunnen toonde op gebied van interieurafwerking. Als stadsarchitect leverde hij tussen 1813 en 1843 een belangrijke bijdrage aan de gedaantewisseling van vesting tot open stad. Hij ontwierp scholen en grote gebouwen op de voormalige wallen zoals de Prins Frederikkazerne en de Infirmerie. In een doorgaans onderbelichte periode van de Nederlandse architectuurgeschiedenis drukte Gerrit van der Wielen in Leeuwarden zijn stempel op de stad.   Martine van der Wielen-de Goede volgde na 25 jaar werkzaam te zijn geweest als apotheker de opleiding geschiedenis aan de Universiteit Leiden. Ze publiceerde twee boeken, een bewerking van haar doctoraalscriptie De nieuwe trekweg langs de Vliet, en OUDEGEEST. Allen van één stamvader (Utrecht 1761-heden). Ook verschenen van haar artikelen over Leidse geschiedenis en over koopvaardij in de Tweede Wereldoorlog. Het eerste exemplaar werd op 30 juni 2021 aangeboden aan de Leeuwarder burgemeester Van Haersma Buma. Van de presentatie is een opname gemaakt, die is hier te zien.

This is one of the good ones. There are other brands just as good, and manny brands are worse, but this handles well, rolls down easily, doesn't come off at all easily, and adapts to dips and curves like a champ. Appropriately heavy and dead, I'm happy with the way it smothers panel resonances and even at muffling direct sound, like a big hand over my Uncle Harry's eternally noisy mouth. You can rip the foil but you have to work hard at doing that. Remember to buy a brayer; you can roll overlaps nice and thin. Also remember to pre-wipe the sheet metal with a decent solvent like acetone or Stoddard/Varsol. It should last forever.

Good stuff, but watch the temp

I used this in my single cab pickup truck (89 ford.) It only took half the box (10 sheets or 25 square feet) to do the floors, but I bought the big box because I plan to do the doors, back wall, and maybe the roof as well. One thing I learned is that the temperature matters when you’re doing the installation. It was around 55F when I started in the evening, and when it dipped down into the 40s the sheets would not stick to the metal, and were hard to compress with the roller. That’s why I ended up only doing the floors and not any vertical surfaces; i will have to wait for a nice hot day. The other thing is that the foil layer on top is razor sharp at the edges, definitely wear gloves! I didn’t notice until after but I have little papercuts all over my fingers. Aside from those things, the install was easy and straightforward. The sheets cut easily with scissors, and any goo that ends up on your hands or scissors can be cleaned up with acetone (nail polish remover), or lacquer thinner. I would use this stuff again.

The Mitt is it.
I ordered the applicator because the Poli Glow Kit on hand was ordered and received a couple of years ago and it had the old chamois covered rectangular applicator. I could tell by looking that the mitt was the better solution. Also, the mitt was described well in an online video, so using it was easy to learn. The results were fantastic and I am very pleased with it. The only thing I would change is to add some more information on how often to replenish the mitt and with how much Poli Glow liquid. I wasn't sure if I was skimping or wasting the material. As I approached halfway, I couldn't tell if I was going to run out before I finished, so I tried to be as frugal as possible. Turns out, I had liquid left over.
