Een opvallende en sfeervolle set zware schaakstukken van geperste steenhars, met prachtige ontwerpen, vervaardigd in het VK door de meesterambachtslieden van Berkeley Chess en geïnspireerd op de Royal Beasts van Hampton Court Palace.

De oorspronkelijke ‘King’s Beasts’ werden meer dan 400 jaar geleden gebeeldhouwd voor Koning Hendrik VIII in Hampton Court Palace. Veel stenen beesten sierden de muren van Hampton Court totdat Koning Willem III ze tijdens zijn bewind gebruikte om de slotgracht van het paleis te vullen. Verschillende beesten werden in 1909 teruggevonden toen de gracht werd schoongemaakt. De koningin liet een eigen set van tien beesten maken, grotendeels geïnspireerd op Hendriks originelen, en het zijn deze die we vandaag de dag zien in vele koninklijke ontwerpen, zoals wapens en schilden.
