Jaarlijks wordt er slechts 10 miljoen liter Brunello gemaakt, dat klinkt als veel, maar als je dat vergelijkt met de 320 miljoen liter Champagne die jaarlijks geproduceerd wordt is het bijna niets. De vraag is erg hoog naar deze Koningin van Toscane en het aanbod dus relatief laag. Dan snap je waar de prijs vandaan komt. Voor dat geld heb je dan nog steeds geen garantie op kwaliteit, want er zijn een hoop middelmatige brunello’s (ook daar gaat de vergelijking met Champagne op), maar gelukkig is dat bij Fattoi niet het geval. Die maken al jaren topkwaliteit zonder compromis.
Ik was er deze winter weer even en had toen de eer deze nieuwe Brunello te mogen proeven. De Brunello moet bij wet minstens 4 jaar rusten (waarvan 2 jaar op hout) voordat het de markt op mag dus de jongste Brunello komt uit 2019. Nog steeds erg jong dus voor een wijn met zoveel kracht en tannines, maar ik sloeg bij het eerste slokje stijl achterover. Dit is een absoluut top jaar en nu ook al heel mooi en drinkbaar.
Ik zou wel adviseren een doosje te kopen en er elk jaar eentje open te trekken, ik weet zeker dat deze wijn alleen maar mooier wordt.
