Frequently Asked Questions

• What exactly is a Tiltwatch XTR indicator and why is it important for shipments?

The Tiltwatch XTR is a single-use, self-adhesive indicator designed to monitor goods that must remain upright during transit and storage. Its primary purpose is to provide indisputable visual evidence if a package has been tilted beyond an acceptable angle, offering crucial transparency and accountability in the supply chain.

• How does the Tiltwatch XTR indicator work to detect improper handling?

The Tiltwatch XTR operates with a clever internal mechanism: if the package it's affixed to is tilted beyond an 80-degree angle from the vertical, a small steel disc within the indicator shifts permanently, causing a visible display window to turn red. This irreversible change immediately signals that mishandling has occurred.

• What specific angle of tilt will activate a Tiltwatch XTR indicator?

The Tiltwatch XTR is designed to activate and turn red if the package is tilted past an 80-degree angle from its upright position. This specific threshold ensures that it only triggers for significant tilting events, not minor bumps or vibrations.

• Can normal handling or vibrations during transport accidentally activate a Tiltwatch XTR?

No, the Tiltwatch XTR features a patented design that specifically prevents false activations from normal handling conditions, routine movements, or random vibrations commonly experienced during transportation, ensuring reliability and accuracy.

• What's the main benefit of using Tiltwatch XTR indicators for my shipments?

The core benefit of using Tiltwatch XTR indicators is gaining immediate, undeniable visual evidence of mishandling, specifically tilting. This promotes accountability among carriers, reduces product damage and associated costs, and allows for quicker claims processing or internal investigations into supply chain issues.

Relevant products you may want to consider:

• How do I properly apply a Tiltwatch XTR indicator to a package?

To apply a Tiltwatch XTR, first hold it in an upright position. Then, carefully peel off the adhesive liner from the back. Once the liner is removed, the indicator is armed. Finally, affix it firmly to a clean, dry, and flat surface on the package, preferably near a lower corner, ensuring it remains in an upright orientation.

• Where on a shipping container should I place the Tiltwatch XTR for best results?

For optimal performance, the Tiltwatch XTR should be placed in an upright position as close as possible to the bottom corner of the shipping container. This low and rigid placement helps ensure accurate activation and consistent monitoring.

• Do I need to use more than one Tiltwatch XTR per package for complete monitoring?

Since the Tiltwatch XTR monitors tilt along a single plane, if your goods require monitoring for tilting in multiple directions (e.g., both front-to-back and side-to-side), it is recommended to apply two Tiltwatch XTR indicators on adjacent sides of the package, offset by 90 degrees.

• Are there any surface requirements for applying the Tiltwatch XTR adhesive?

Yes, for the best adhesion and to ensure the indicator functions correctly, the Tiltwatch XTR should be applied to an oil-free surface. It's also recommended to apply it in an environment where the temperature is above 10°C (50°F).

• Does the Tiltwatch XTR come with any warning labels or companion labels?

Yes, Tiltwatch XTR indicators from Valdamark Direct typically come supplied with companion labels and alert stickers. These are designed to be placed on the package and shipping documents, informing handlers that the shipment is being monitored and indicating what actions to take if the indicator is red upon arrival.

Relevant products you may want to consider:

• What should a recipient do if they see a red Tiltwatch XTR indicator upon delivery?

If a Tiltwatch XTR indicator is red, the recipient should not refuse the shipment. Instead, they should make a clear notation of the damage on the delivery receipt, thoroughly inspect the contents for any signs of damage, and if damage is found, keep the item in its original packaging and contact the carrier immediately to request an inspection. It's also advisable to inform the supplier, such as Valdamark Direct, promptly.

• For what types of products is the Tiltwatch XTR particularly well-suited?

The Tiltwatch XTR is ideal for monitoring the shipment of various sensitive goods that must remain upright. This includes items like large electronics, home appliances, industrial machinery components, glass and ceramic goods, furniture, fixtures, and delicate medical equipment.

• Can the Tiltwatch XTR be used for international shipments?

Absolutely. The Tiltwatch XTR provides reliable monitoring for shipments across various transportation modes, making it suitable for both domestic and international logistics to ensure goods arrive as intended.

• Is the Tiltwatch XTR useful for identifying problematic areas within my own supply chain?

Yes, by providing clear evidence of tilting, the Tiltwatch XTR helps businesses pinpoint specific trouble spots or handlers within their supply chain where mishandling might be occurring, enabling them to implement corrective actions and improve overall logistics.

• How does using Tiltwatch XTR contribute to claims recovery?

When a Tiltwatch XTR turns red, it provides indisputable visual proof of improper handling. This clear evidence can significantly strengthen claims against carriers for damaged goods, helping businesses recover costs and reduce financial losses.

Relevant products you may want to consider:

• Can the Tiltwatch XTR deter mishandling before it even happens?

Yes, simply by being visibly present on a package, the Tiltwatch XTR acts as a strong visual deterrent. When carriers and handlers see the indicator, they are often more inclined to exercise greater care, knowing that any tilting will be recorded.

• What is the operational temperature range for the Tiltwatch XTR?

The Tiltwatch XTR is designed to perform reliably across a wide range of temperatures, typically from -40°C to 60°C (-40°F to 140°F), making it suitable for diverse shipping environments.

• How does humidity affect the performance of a Tiltwatch XTR?

The Tiltwatch XTR is built with a vacuum seal that helps eliminate the effects of humidity and temperature changes, ensuring its accuracy and reliability even in environments with varying humidity levels (5% to 99% non-condensing).

• What are the dimensions of a single Tiltwatch XTR indicator?

A typical Tiltwatch XTR indicator measures approximately 74.27mm in width, 60.31mm in length, and 5.29mm in depth, making it a compact yet highly visible device for most packages.

• Is the Tiltwatch XTR reusable after activation?

No, the Tiltwatch XTR is a single-use device. Once it has been activated and turned red due to a tilt beyond 80 degrees, the change is irreversible, and it cannot be reset or reused.

Relevant products you may want to consider:

• What is the shelf life of the adhesive on a Tiltwatch XTR?

The high-tack acrylic adhesive on the Tiltwatch XTR typically has a shelf life of up to two years from the date of manufacture when stored under recommended conditions.

• What quantities are Tiltwatch XTR indicators usually available in from Valdamark Direct?

Valdamark Direct typically supplies Tiltwatch XTR indicators in convenient packs, usually in quantities of 100 units per carton, which often includes companion labels and alert stickers.

• Can I purchase Tiltwatch XTR indicators in bulk from Valdamark Direct for large-scale operations?

Yes, Valdamark Direct often caters to large-scale operational needs and can provide bulk purchase options for Tiltwatch XTR indicators. It's advisable to contact their sales team directly for specific bulk pricing and availability.

• Are there any special storage requirements for Tiltwatch XTR indicators before use?

To maintain their effectiveness and ensure the adhesive performs optimally, Tiltwatch XTR indicators should be stored in a cool, dry place, ideally at room temperature, and in their original packaging until ready for use.

• Does Valdamark Direct provide technical support or assistance with Tiltwatch XTR products?

Yes, as a reputable supplier, Valdamark Direct typically offers technical support and guidance for the products they sell, including the Tiltwatch XTR indicators, to help customers understand their proper application and benefits.

Relevant products you may want to consider:

• What is the typical lead time for ordering Tiltwatch XTR from Valdamark Direct?

While lead times can vary based on stock levels and order volume, Valdamark Direct generally aims to process and ship orders efficiently. It's best to check their website or contact customer service for current shipping estimates.

• How does the Tiltwatch XTR differ from the Tiltwatch PLUS indicator?

The Tiltwatch XTR is a straightforward, single-plane indicator that turns red if tilted past 80 degrees, providing a clear go/no-go signal. In contrast, the Tiltwatch PLUS is a more comprehensive indicator that shows not only if a tilt has occurred but also the specific direction (left or right) and the degree of tilt, including full overturn, making it suitable for high-value or highly sensitive shipments requiring more detailed data.

• Is the Tiltwatch XTR a tamper-proof device?

Yes, the Tiltwatch XTR is designed to be tamper-proof. Once activated, the irreversible color change provides clear evidence of a tilt, making it difficult to conceal mishandling.

• Can using Tiltwatch XTR indicators improve my company's reputation with customers?

Absolutely. By visibly demonstrating a commitment to careful handling and product integrity, using Tiltwatch XTR indicators can significantly enhance customer confidence and improve your company's reputation, showing that you prioritize the safe delivery of their goods.

• Beyond just detecting tilt, how do Tiltwatch XTR indicators contribute to overall supply chain accountability?

Tiltwatch XTR indicators foster a stronger chain of accountability throughout the supply chain. Their presence encourages all parties involved—from packers to freight forwarders and recipients—to handle packages with greater care, knowing that any deviation from upright handling will be immediately evident. This proactive approach helps reduce overall damage and promotes better handling practices.

A book on dialogue should be experienced first as a book on tape
Format: Audio CD
I think of this more as a great master class lecture. Dialogue should be seemingly simple (we all talk), but McKee defines its essence and differences for prose, stage and cinema. The bulk is narrated by McKee, but the scene examples are read by voice actors and they do quite well. Even the roots of the English language are examined in order to make better decisions on your character's particular use of words. After listening the 10 hours twice while commuting, I finally picked up the book and read it. The book on tape is a better way to initially absorb the material, while the actual book helps to clarify the info. A must for all writers, especially screenwriters.

Helpful, but not as good as "Story" by same author, and it disses certain genres
Format: Hardcover
This book contains a lot of helpful information on how to write dialogue. It's dense with dialogue analysis and insights, tough to take in by just reading it through once. But it is helpful. McKee covers the three dialogue tiers (said, unsaid, unsayable) as well as how dialogue ties into story turning points and scene conflict type. I still have lots of practice ahead of me to figure out how best to do this in my story. I will definitely use his advice as a guide. He understands dialogue at a much deeper level than I do. However, many of McKee's dialogue examples did not speak to me. While I liked reading the dialogue examples for Breaking Bad, 30 Rock, The Sopranos, Frasier, A Raisin in the Sun, and The Great Gatsby, and agreed they were good, I disliked the dialogue from Shakespeare, Elmore Leonard, Sideways, Fraulein Else, and Lost in Translation. McKee says fine dialogue turns the reader/audience into a mind reader; I guess I'm not interested in movies which expect me to be as much of a mind reader as those latter examples did. I totally missed the subtext of the dialogue in those until he explained it to me as an aside. And that's after I already saw most of those movies! If I have to guess what every character means with every line, that's too much work and too little entertainment for me. Maybe mystery lovers liked the dialogue in "Lost in Translation"; I'm not a mystery lover. McKee quoted one novelist as saying that the crux of good writing is to, "Make em laugh, make em cry, make em wait." Lost In Translation and its dialogue did none of that for me. The subtext was so confusing and subtle that I lost interest in the movie. I can't even remember what it was about anymore, only that it won some award and I had no clue why. McKee says that with rare exceptions, a scene should never be outwardly and entirely about what it seems to be about. Dialogue should imply, not explain, its subtext. An ever-present subtext is the guiding principle of realism. Nonrealism, on the other hand, employs on-the-nose dialogue in all its genres and subgenres: myth and fairytale, science fiction and time travel, animation, the musical, the supernatural, Theatre of the Absurd, action/adventure, farce, horror, allegory, magical realism, postmodernism, dieselpunk retrofuturism, and the like. It's a bit unclear how, if at all, anyone writing in any of these "nonreal" genres should take his dialogue advice. It seems to me that even sci fi scenes need some good dialogue with subtext to be engaging. With McKee, all the accolades go to what is implied and unsaid over what is said. I agree that subtext matters, but for me, he's out of proportion with how much it matters to most people and how hard audiences are willing to work to discover the intended subtext. Also, memorable spoken character lines can elevate movie themes and characterization like nothing else. In the end, I think this book is geared more toward writers who want other advanced writers as their audience rather than the average reader or movie watcher. And McKee admits it is definitely not geared toward sci fi, fairytales/myths, action/adventure, horror or allegory. It's almost as if he's saying those genres can't have excellent dialogue. I disagree. But it was still a helpful book to read, and one I will be thinking about and trying to more fully understand for a long time. McKee understands how character's subconscious drives can deepen what they say or avoid saying, and how dialogue interacts with many other aspects of a story to make it all work together.

Amazing.
Format: Kindle
Just like a good movie, the first 10 pages = mind blown. Wow, such really, really good material here. If you're new, this will help you a ton. If you're experienced, this book will help you realize WHY great dialogue is so great, enabling you to create the magic again and again. I love how McKee covers several medias ( screen, theater, novel ) but still stays true and clear on the concept. A virtual masterclass on the subject. One of the best screenwriting books out there, and Yes, it's well worth all the hype.

So to speak
Format: Kindle
Previews did not show the Table of Contents, but it is worth searching the web for. The coverage includes practical techniques as well as case studies. Notes cover titles on topics over several decades. This book has four parts about what dialogue is, how it can mended, and how it can be created and designed. Trialogue, the third thing through which a pair of characters channel conflict in conversation, is an interesting concept because it overlaps social networks or media and comms devices; it is also looked at historically. Dialogue is reportedly the quickest way to fix a narrative text since it appeals to intuition. Those levels of depth are what the book is about. They can be found in first person voice. The approach could easily fill a site on the order of tropes for favorite titles, but for deconstruction and revision, which are also relevant to works in progress. It talks about finding characters in the dark, though not necessarily from the milieu, unless it were compressed and made to transfer meaning like in poetry, but reflexive so that it is symmetrical to the characters or human nature. If there is a boundary to be found, then this method is going to hit the lines to find out what happens then. The impact on the rest of the narrative elements is discussed. This extends back through the early philosophers, through tragedy, the merging of European roots into English, and the study of personalities to contemporary customs. Voice is plot.

ONE OF THE TWO BEST BOOKS ON SCREENWRITING
Format: Hardcover
Probably the best book on screenwriting ever (besides Egri), though there is also much here for the novelist and playwright. I am a professional TV writer, of long-standing (35 years), and I can tell you I used this book to figure out how to fix the problems of a complex pilot I'm writing; the author truly " guided me home." And lest you think I'm a McKee sycophant, I am not. I found little in STORY for me. The only thing I disagree with in DIALOGUE is that the author sells his own work short: it isn't just for those who are "lost" in their writing, like me, and the student, it's for anyone who writes fiction for a living, in any form, no matter how much experience they have. It's that good.
