Can I do it?

Once you are bitten by the enthusiasm to fly, you will not need any extra motivation. It gets under your skin. The sense of accomplishment as you progress through the various stages of your training is amazing.  Almost anyone can learn to fly. Every year, thousands of people begin a course of flying lessons, which will eventually lead them to obtain a private pilot's licence. It is challenging, but that is what makes it so rewarding.

You may experience your first solo flight at the age of 16. There is no upper age limit to obtain the licence, but you must be fit enough to pass a simple medical examination before being allowed to go solo.

The NPPL and PPL courses do not have to be completed within a minimum time and in fact, many students spread the time and cost over one or two years. For those in a hurry to obtain the licence, a much shorter intensive course can be arranged.

Generally, your training will include:

  • Ground training and exams in different subjects.
  • Dual flying lessons with an instructor
  • Solo flying training
  • Flight test

The course follows a clearly defined syllabus approved by the CAA. The flying exercises must be conducted by a flight instructor qualified and tested by Civil Aviation Authority examiners.

The first step

Just book a trial lesson with us by emailing [email protected] or calling 01384 221727. You can find out more about the trial lessons here

What if I wish to continue?

Simply book another flight, we are open from 9:00 100 till 1800 5 days a week, (Monday and Tuesday we are closed). Bob Kirk - Our CFI (Chief Flying Instructor) - will take you through the requirements of the course in more detail and work on a training structure that suits your requirements.

The lessons cover such manoeuvres as straight and level flight, climbing and descending and turning then take-offs and landings. This training will lead to your, never to be forgotten, experience of the first solo. More advanced lessons will include advanced turns, simulated emergencies then navigation an instrument flying. Ground school is provided to assist in learning the theoretical subjects including Air Law, Meteorology, Radio Telephony, Human Performance, Air Navigation, Aircraft Performance and Aircraft Technical. When the course is complete, you must pass a skills test with an authorised examiner, which consists of a navigation and general handling test. Once qualified you are entitled to fly with passengers in a British registered single engine piston (SEP) aircraft anywhere in the world. Short conversion courses are available to get you checked out on more advanced aircraft with higher cruising speeds.  Trips to the Channel Islands and France are very popular with UK pilots.

Other ratings are available to add to your skills. Night qualifications allow you to fly at night with passengers adding a new dimension to your pleasure your flying pleasure. Instrument Meteorological Conditions rating allows you to fly in and above cloud or poor visibility increasing your skills and allowing you to fly when others may be grounded due to bad weather. Multi engine piston rating allows you to fly aircraft with more than one engine, giving greater safety when flying long distance especially across water. Some pilots wish to continue their to build hours towards their commercial or air transport pilot licence please inquire about block rates.

Stopped working within 3 days
Color: Blue
Worked for 3 plays. My 11 week old puppy loved this item. Unfortunately, it only lasted 3 tries before the motor stopped working. $30 for a total of 30 minutes over 3 days is robbery! I'd look at another vendor for the same type of item. We charged it after each attempt but now the motor won't turn on.

Used it one day and partially the following day. Put on charger. Never worked again. My dog played with it but returned it as defective.

Not for super chewers
Color: Blue
This ball seems to be of good quality; has held a charge well and is easy to use. Sadly, the cover lasted less than 15 minutes with our dog.... not for aggressive chewers for sure. Pretty funny to watch the hound dog jowls shake though.

Great fun for dogs!
Color: Orange
Two of our dogs really love this! It caused a lot of barking and chasing and running around trying to grab it. It's really funny to use the remote to control it (and especially make it stop when things get a little too chaotic!) It feels durable even when pawed and bumped into and stepped on. The battery life seems good. I plugged it in overnight to charge so not sure how long it took to charge, but it has lasted quite a while with the dogs playing with it and still doesn't need a charge. It's easy to screw off one side of the ball to plug it in to charge. The size is a little bigger than a tennis ball I would say and has a soft texture.

It doesn't work.
Color: Blue
The two halves of the ball shell come apart again and again when the dog plays with them. When it is time to recharge the core, it will not take a charge. The dog loves it, but it's unsafe to play with.
