The Fender American Ultra II Jazz Bass V starts with a double-cutaway Jazz Bass body made from select alder. Specially selected to assume this model's body, this cut of alder features the American Ultra II's Ultra body contours to enhance this instrument's feeling in hand and in the arms. A sculpted neck heel goes even further in this pursuit of comfort to allow for easier access to the highest registers possible.

The American Ultra II Jazz Bass V brings on a quartersawn maple neck decked in a smooth Ultra Satin finish. On the palm, this neck is silky and seamlessly played. This smooth touch is enhanced by a Modern D-shaped profile that conforms to hand positions easily to assist in playing across the full scale. The quartersawn maple, graphite reinforced and designed with Posiflex support rods, is incredibly stable for the most discerning of players.

A 10"-14" measuring compound fingerboard radius appears across this quartersawn maple's fingerboard. This exciting addition ensures the most modern of feelings across the fingers as the board starts at a – relatively flatter and very modern – 10" radius and flattens further to 14" as it moves toward the body. The compound measurement of this fingerboard ensures a comfortable and responsive feeling on the fingers – a common design feature of more modern, cutting-edge instruments. Ultra Rolled edges smooth out the ends of this Jazz Bass V's maple fingerboard to optimize comfort even further. Luminlay side dots punctuate the board for a bright set of fret markers.

For this Jazz Bass, Fender built in two Ultra II Noiseless Vintage Jazz Bass pickups. These single-coils deliver on a massive spectrum of sound for Jazz Bass tones both classic and modern – all without hum. A redesigned preamp compounds on this tonal experience to unlock even more sounds. An S-1 switching system dials in for active/passive operation while a passive tone control and three-band active EQ sculpt the single-coil sounds of this bass more deeply to get on new musical paths.

The hardware setup on this American Ultra II is also worth writing home about. An adjustable HiMass bridge offers the option of top-load or through-body stringing for further customization. Fender Light-Weight Vintage-Paddle key tuning machines line the classic Jazz Bass headstock alongside a Graph Tech TUSQ nut for sturdy intonation and stability.
