Discover the powerful narrative in 'Children of the Northern Forest,' a compelling examination of conservation failures in northern New England's forests. This groundbreaking book, set to release in 2024, highlights the urgent need for a wilder, equitable future for forest-dependent communities. Written by Jamie Sayen, it emphasizes the often-ignored voices of the forest: the ecosystems, First Peoples, and modern-day stakeholders like loggers and citizens who advocate for nature. Sayen's work reveals the impacts of corporate timberland sales and mill closures between 1988 and 2016, offering a critical look at how land management decisions affect ecological health and local economies. With half of the region's industrial forests deemed degraded, 'Children of the Northern Forest' presents an in-depth case study on tackling climate change, habitat loss, and environmental injustice. This insightful text provides a roadmap for restoring wildlands and transitioning towards a sustainable, lower-carbon economy while upholding the rights of all living beings. Engage with this essential reading to understand the complexities of forest conservation, environmental equity, and sustainable practices in Northeastern United States. Perfect for eco-enthusiasts, environmental historians, and policymakers alike, this book invites a rethinking of our relationship with nature in the face of global economic pressures.Shipping Notes

Good for my collection.
Format: Hardcover
This was another quick and entertaining read. This instalment wasn't as enjoyable as some of the other books but it was still good. I'm glad to have it in my collection.

Great story and illustrations!
I purchased this book as a Christmas present for my toddler nephew and it became his favorite new book of the year!
I had read the story randomly in a store some years ago as the title, awards, and cover illustration caught my eye. Growing up as a 90s kid, I cannot recall being exposed to a variety of diverse books especially ones that take place in the city and Last Stop on Market Street stuck with me. It depicts the city life well, how for some the only transportation is the bus, and the value of community by giving your time to help and connect with others.
The illustrations are beautifully done and the story captures both CJ's imaginations and observations wells. My brother especially loved how wise CJ's grandmother is as she guides him during their journey and teaches him at a young age how to help those in need.

A beautifully written and illustrated story about a young boy and his Nana and their loving spirit they share with others
Format: Hardcover
This is a simple, but beautiful story with heart. It is told by a little boy who apparently lives with his Nana. The illustrations are scenes painted in brilliant colors. C.J., the boy has many questions to ask his Nana, like why they have to ride the bus or always to do the same thing every Sunday? Nana patiently and gently answers every question and helps C.J. to open his eyes and his mind to the beauty around him. This book teachers children compassion and to look for good and beauty in people and their surroundings. It models empathy for those who have less than one has. Nana has a lovely spirit and great wisdom. She makes one feel that she is a lady one would like to know. Nana teaches the joy of giving back to others. This is a book I will read again and again.
