Mesquite Bowl Blank M-1160 3.5" x 6" x 7" 3.7 lbs. This is a beautiful and elongated half-log bowl blank of Texas Honey Mesquite. The overall color is the deep reddish brown of Mesquite heartwood surrounded by a thin band of yellow sapwood, with a complete and well-attached dark brown bark on the backside. This blank is wider than it is long. You have a lot of options with this blank -- it would make a beautiful winged bowl for example, or perhaps an emergent bowl. With the bark on the backside, you have the option of turning a conventional bowl or a "barky" natural-edge bowl. However, if you want a full bark edge on the "natural" rim, you will need to secure the bark with CA glue before and possibly during turning. This is a classic half-log blank, split through the center of the log. It does not have any pith in it or any pith-related cracks visible. This is a GREEN to partially air-dried bowl blank, meaning that it still retains a lot of its original moisture from when it was a living tree. It has been well-sealed with Anchor Seal and is in the process of slowly drying. It was heat-treated to kill off any hungry critters that may have been burrowing inside. It was measured at 25% MC in May 2022. If you need a current moisture content, please message us and we'll check its status for you. About the Tree This Texas-grown Honey Mesquite tree was harvested in El Campo, Texas in March of 2022. It was cut down by the city for reasons unknown to us, and we were happy to help save the tree from a burn pile. It is possible that this tree was damaged by the Valentine's Day Freeze that Texas suffered in February 2021, which is when our state lost a lot of beautiful trees in an unusually deep and long freeze. You can feel good about this American-grown hardwood being responsibly harvested and turned into beautiful art by YOU. The tree was in healthy growing condition, with a minimum of bug damage and a nice healthy girth to the trunk. There is some minor evidence of fire damage, perhaps from a campfire, near the base of the tree on one side. It may have been in a fairly protected area such as a city park, as the Mesquite is less twisted and gnarly than trees grown in open pastures. The grain looks generally long and straight and of excellent quality for green or dried turning. |

Durable

Well, our dogs didn't end up playing tug with each other, but they love the toy anyway and it still looks pretty good after a month. That doesn't sound like much, but they both love to chew and destroy rubber and they're ridiculously good at it. They also really like chewing the strap between the two balls, which is still in surprisingly good condition. Most "indestructible" toys are toast within the hour. Well worth the money. Plus, the unpredictable bounce when thrown keeps the dogs busy.

Good quality ball for large dog, easy to clean

It’s challenging to review this because I bought it for my son’s dog, and it doesn’t interest him at all, even though he likes and plays with regular balls. The ball appears to be good quality, which is typical for this brand. He likes to play tug of war, so I thought the combination with a ball would be a hit. The strap looks durable, so time will tell if he develops an interest in playing with this at some point. The ball is hard rubber and fairly heavy, so it should hold up to an aggressive chewer. It doesn’t squeak or make any other noise. It bounces unpredictably and erratically because of the attached strap. Both the strap and ball are easy to clean with soap and water.

A must have if "ball is life"

If ball is life for your pup this is a great option! Our 70lb mutt is obsessed. We got her the large size for reference. She is not a chewer so we have zero issues with the attached leash/rope part. The ball is the same hard rubber of a typical Chuck-it ball. The rope makes tossing and grabbing the ball from your dog so much easier and cleaner. I also love this helps avoid any choking hazard with typical balls having the rope.

Best and most durable toy for our German shepherd

We have a German shepherd. This is our 2nd purchase. The first one was her first and favorite toy.
We still have the first one. But the strap broke (after a year) bc we didn't realize she hid it under blanket, and she chewed it in half. But after a year of hard play, the strap was worn out. She still plays with her ball, and often carries it with her on her walks.
It throws well and I love not having to pick up a slobbery ball. The ball is soft, durable, safe, and easy to play with.

Need suggestions

This was a great toy but my 9 month old puppy (65 lbs ). Chewed it up within 3 hours. Any suggestions? I am really trying to find a tugging toy that can with stand him. He is a significant chewer.
