A beautifully illustrated and presented intergenerational graphic novel that follows 11-year-old Benji and his elderly grandmother, Bubbe Rosa, as they traverse Brooklyn and Manhattan, gathering the ingredients for a Friday night dinner.
Bubbe's relationship with the city is complex & nothing is quite as she remembered it and she feels alienated and angry at the world around her. Benji, on the other hand, looks at the world, and his grandmother, with clear-eyed acceptance. As they wander the city, we catch glimpses of Bubbe's childhood in Germany, her young adulthood in 1950s Brooklyn, and her relationships; first with a baker called Gershon, and later with successful Joe, Benji's grandfather. Gradually we piece together snippets of Bubbe's life, gaining an insight to some of the things that have formed her cantankerous personality. The journey culminates on the Lower East Side in a moving reunion between Rosa and Gershon, her first love. As the sun sets, Benji and his Bubbe walk home over the Williamsburg Bridge to make dinner.
This is a powerful, affecting and deceptively simple story of Jewish identity, of generational divides, of the surmountability of difference and of a restless city and its inhabitants.

Looks great on my 67 skin!

Covers well. I love the color. I bought the medium and tan to cover all seasons. I will mix them as needed. It is sticky all day but it looks great so I'll deal with the sticky! I've tried sooo many tinted high SPF moisturizers and I've finally found one that really looks good.

I recently switched to this mineral sunscreen after having irritation and redness from several chemical sunscreens, and it has made a big difference for me. My skin is sensitive, but this one feels gentle and comfortable without causing burning or itching. It gives me good protection and doesn’t leave my skin feeling worse by the end of the day. Definitely a better option for sensitive skin.

Glowy SPF skin tint, Great skin-like coverage

I’ve tried a lot of skin tints and this one actually surprised me. The Colorescience Flex Shield gives that “your skin but healthier” look without feeling heavy or greasy. I love that it starts white and adjusts to your skin tone — it blends in really naturally and evens everything out without looking makeup-y.
The finish is glowy but still skin-like, and knowing I’m getting SPF protection at the same time makes it perfect for everyday wear. On busy days this has honestly replaced my foundation.

The best sunscreen I've tried

Both of my parents and both of my maternal grandparents have had skin cancer at least once, so sunscreen is an absolute must for me. I also have sensory processing issues and can't stand sunscreens that smell artificial and/or leave my skin feeling sticky or greasy. Finally, my skin is super sensitive, so I need a sunscreen that I can apply daily without causing a reaction.
I've tried literally hundreds of different sunscreens at all different price points, but because of my rigid list of requirements, I've usually ended up spending a fortune on sensitive-skin-formulated face moisturizers with SPF and using them on all my exposed skin in place of normal sunscreen, because they've been the only options I've found that check every box.
Enter Hawaiian Tropic sport sunscreen. Sure, it doesn't absorb into my skin quite as thoroughly as my favorite SPF moisturizer, but it's also less than 1/6th the price for 8x the quantity. It also has a nice scent that doesn't give me a headache (no overtly chemical smell), only barely leaves my skin feeling greasy, and doesn't cause any irritation with daily application.
It's the only "normal" (non-moisturizer) sunscreen I can stand to wear. I literally have one bottle in my car, a second in my purse, and a third in my medicine cabinet at all times.

My top choice for outdoor sun protection

This sunscreen is so important to use for exposed skin sun protection. Hawaiian Tropic sunscreen ( 50 SPF ) is, in my own personal opinion, the best on the market.
