Crystal Waters, Emily Bay, Norfolk Island  - Emily Bay is the sandy crescent-shaped jewel in Kingston’s World Heritage crown. The bay’s pristine beach areas and crystal-clear waters were first home to Polynesian seafarers as long as 1000 years ago. Emily Bay is protected by the reef section that runs from Point Hunter to the Landing Place and Kingston Pier which has created a stunning natural lagoon that is teeming with marine-life.

Looking out over Emily Bay today it’s hard to imagine that such beauty could be located within the site of one of the most brutal penal settlements in colonial history, though in many respects this is true of all of Kingston. Today the bay is Norfolk Island’s epicentre of fun and relaxation. The floating pontoon anchored in the bay is a magnet for happy children, while kayakers and paddleboarders glide effortlessly over the bay’s glassy surface and swimmers and snorkellers explore the waters below. It is Norfolk’s most accessible beach located in the lowland Kingston area, so it is very easy to get to yet so much harder to leave.
