First edition, very rare.
John Gunn (1801-1890), a Norfolk clergyman, was also a significant geologist. In later life a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society and brother-in-law of W.J. Hooker, he was inspired by the discovery of elephant fossils in Norfolk to devote his energies to geology in the area and this book includes some of his most important findings. The chapter on fossil elephants and deer is particularly fascinating.
